Earlier this week we turned our 2027 watchlist into an official rankings update with 100 prospects in the SoCal's sophomore class in the mix. In this piece we take a closer look at the prospects who round out the Top 10.

6. [player_tooltip player_id='2435361' first='Tavid' last='Johnson'] | Francis Parker

Johnson is one of the best pure scorers in SoCal's 2027 class and checks in as the top prospect in the San Diego region among current sophomores. The 6-foot-2 combo guard is a smooth operator on the perimeter where he can use the dribble and body control to get into his mid-range jumper or three-pointer out of rhythm dribbles. Johnson is also a savvy driver and scorer around the basket who understands how to use change of speed, direction and angles to his advantage.

7. [player_tooltip player_id='2436295' first='Godson' last='Eyita'] | St. Joseph

Eyita's rise to recruitable prospect was swift last season and into the spring and summer as his combination of size, athleticism and dexterity when catching, gathering and finishing around the basket are often rare traits for a young big man to possess. The 6-foot-9 center is a mobile rim-runner in transition who can finish above the rim or with a handful of back to the basket moves. Eyita also shines on the defensive end with his rim protecting instincts, ability to guard ball screens in a variety of ways and defensive rebounding impact.

8. [player_tooltip player_id='2435386' first='Hunter' last='Caplan'] | Crean Lutheran

Caplan is one of the best three-point shooters in the state, and while his fluid release and deep range stand out the most about his game, he continues to show that his offensive repertoire is much deeper than just perimeter jumpers. The 6-foot-3 combo guard is a viable creator for himself and teammates off the bounce with his steady ball handling, court vision and decision-making shine with the simplicity of his reads and decisions.

9. [player_tooltip player_id='2435366' first='Cole' last='Holden'] | Harvard-Westlake

At most other programs, Holden would have played a big role on varsity as a freshman, but because last year's Harvard-Westlake team was so loaded at the guard spot, the 6-foot-2 guard was able to get live game reps at the junior varsity level. Look for Holden to play good minutes this season where you'll see his dribble, pass, shoot ability combined with a high basketball IQ which lends to his evaluation as a "complete player."

10. [player_tooltip player_id='2435388' first='Jasiah' last='Williams'] | Hesperia

Williams is one of the better kept secrets on a national scale as he's one of the best two-way players that Southern California basketball has to offer. The 6-foot-3 guard/wing is a quick twitch athlete whose downhill speed and ability to change direction keeps defenders on their heels and allows him to get to the paint where he can finish through, above or around contact with athleticism and body control. Williams is a multi-positional defender whose length, lateral speed and quick hands and instincts allow him to pressure and make ball handlers uncomfortable.
