Season Preview: Las Vegas High School

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Last Season </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Wildcats were 3-8 in league play, and 12-15 overall last year. Unfortunately they ended up just barely missing the playoffs. Tay'shaun Jackson was their leader in scoring and averaged 22.9 PPG. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>ALL IN</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Coach Jason Wilson is still at the helm and has his team building towards a winning record this season. At their intramural they had music bumping and there was a lot of good energy in the gym. As they got into skill work, the guys were really feeding off of each other. At one point they were working on corner 3's and hit 7 consecutively. Not much later, they switched to the other corner and were draining 3's once again. If they can shoot like that all year, they are going to be very scary. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When I spoke to Tay'shaun Jackson. [player_tooltip player_id='1765906' first='Hunter' last='Iverson'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2327731' first='Jakhai' last='Jones'] after their intramural, they mentioned that heading to state is the number one goal. With all of the shooting that Las Vegas has this season, that should open things up for Jackson when he chooses to drive. However if help comes, he has good awareness and is able to dish it to his teammates in the corner. At their intramural, he displayed some great shooting mechanics and didn't miss many 3-point attempts. The sophomore guard has some juice when he drives to the rim and he also has some finishing ability. He's very quick, and stays active with his hands. He can take it to the rack or shoot it from beyond the 3-point line. Jones also knows how to make clever passes when he draws a lot of attention. He seems to move off the ball well and gets to his spots. I also noticed how hard he worked on defense in their intramural. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Season Outlook -</strong> I believe that the Wildcats will be an improved squad this season. I'm a a fan of their shooting and camaredie. It also helps that their point guard is a senior and can manage the game. Look for them to be one of the better teams in 5A.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>From A Recruiting Standpoint - </strong>Las Vegas High School is going to get some good guard play out of Tay'shaun Jackson and [player_tooltip player_id='1765906' first='Hunter' last='Iverson'] this season. Both may have what it takes to play collegiately. Then they also have some talented sophomores, Jacory Boyce and [player_tooltip player_id='2468405' first='Amari' last='Hinds'], who are on the rise in my opinion.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
