High School Spotlight: Lawrence Central Bears

The season is still a few months away, but with team workouts starting to take place soon, it is the perfect time to start previewing the season. In this series, we will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and notable games for the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the Lawrence Central Bears.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Quick Hitters</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Went 12-10 last season.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Defeated by Warren Central in Sectionals.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Head Coach Phil Washington returns for his 2nd season as the head coach. 12-10 overall record.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>A sneaky young team with a chance to be one of the best in Class 4A in the next couple of years.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player: [player_tooltip player_id='2266897' first='Kenneth' last='Lampley'] / [player_tooltip player_id='1981704' first='Albert' last='Gooden III']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Really for the first time in this series, it was very hard to decide between the player that may provide the most production and the player with the most upside as a prospect. That is why went with both Gooden III and Lampley as the top overall players for Lawrence Central. Starting with Gooden, he is engine of this Lawrence Central team. He brings back 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game from a season ago and will be the main man in the backcourt of the Bears. For Lampley, he is sophomore transfer from Indianapolis Tindley and brings over 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds from his time there. At 6'6, this forward has pretty much all the physical tools that you want to see out of a high school prospect and will surely be a high major player when he gets to the college level. These two paired together make for a dangerous 1-2 punch combo for the Bears.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player: [player_tooltip player_id='1561118' first='Doron' last='Harris']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A no-question top 50 prospect in the in-state 2026 class, Harris comes back for his junior season at Lawrence Central looking to see his stock rise even further. He will be paired in the backcourt with Gooden III making for one of the more dynamic guard duos in the entire state. Harris himself is a very dynamic guard in his own way as he can play on and off the ball. On the ball is where is able to make most of his plays being able to be dangerous in transition and finish around the rim in creative ways.
