Expert Analysis
Mark Miller | Prep Hoops Scout
Lyons uses his physicality and skill to make things tough on opponents in the South Central Conference. The strong combination guard has helped a young Westfield team to a 4-6 record by averaging 26.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He was at his best in a 66-62 win over Markesan, scoring 38 points and getting to the foul line 17 times (making 11). Lyons, who recently surpassed 1,000 career points, is on course to repeat as an all-league performer for the Pioneers.

The top returning player for defending South Central Conference champion Westfield, Lyon plays with physical toughness and an edge that keeps defenders a bit off balance. He can definitely get to the basket and is always a threat to drive to the hoop once the ball gets to him. But he’s also a good long-distance shooter so opponents have to respect his outside jump shot. A returning second-team all-league player, Lyon averaged 19.6 ppg and 2.8 rpg while helping Westfield to a 21-5 record under coach Nick Brakebush last season.

Lyon had a solid evening, checking a lot of boxes on both ends of the court. He mixed in scoring from all levels and showed confidence when taking the rock to the hole. He was a persistent on-ball defender and generated turnovers, including one which he took the other way for an easy lay-up. Now 6’2″, Lyon put his additional height to work by throwing down a dunk on a fast break, while also showing a nice stroke from beyond the arc.
