Palmetto State : Bulldog Shootout 3rd Place Game
Prep Hoops SC took in the action on the last day from the Bulldog Shootout at Georgetown HS. Lets take a look at the third place game in this segment.
Andrews battled county rival and host Georgetown in the 3rd place game last night. Andrews jumped out to a 12-2 lead after sophomore Carrele Cooper connected on a three pointer at 4:10 mark of the first quarter. The foes remained tied at 29-29 at 4:00 mark before halftime.Georgetown took the lead into the halftime break at 40-36.
Darius McGirt (2018) is a freak athlete that plays strictly around the basket for the Georgetown HS Bulldogs. McGirt got it going early in the 2nd half with some quick baskets in transition. Mcgirt likes to play above the rim but does lack skill level. The bulldogs raced out to a 48-40 lead with 3:56 left in the 3rd quarter on a McGirt layup on a fast break.
The Yellow Jackets would finally answer in a big way for Head Coach Kevin Branham. Andrews HS would go on a 22-5 run to take a 62-53 lead with 3:51 left in the game. Shamar Matthews and Amahn Anderson broke the game out for the Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets would finally pull away for good and prevail 77-60 in the 3rd place game of the Bulldog Shootout.
Matthews (2018) led the way with 27 points on 4 three pointers for the victors. Anderson (2018) scored 23 points while Cooper chipped in 12 points.
Anderson 5’8 point guard got into the lane at will against the Bulldogs defense all night long. The Yellow Jackets have a three headed monster in this trio this season. The Yellow Jackets finished 2-1 in the tourney.
McGirt led the Bulldogs with 17 points in the loss while Darrell Gardner (2020) with 13 points. The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the young season under Head Coach Mike Ford.
