- Normally on a night with only seven games being played and only three ranked teams playing (high school team rankings will be out within the next 24 hours) would be a slow night but when it's the first day of the season, you get a headline article!
- Game of the night has to be Monticello vs Orono. The game puts Sam Sustacek and a new cast around him against sensational playmaker Matt Todd and the Monticello Magic. This is likely to be the destination of those in the metro who want to see high school basketball.
- The other metro game is Class AA contender St. Paul Academy and leaders Dalante Peyton and Kent Hanson sent to embark and their final run and it starts against St. Croix Prep who will be missing 35 a night from Michael G. The contest likely won't be that competitive but it's opening night man, who knows what will happen!
- The game I would like to see more than any other is Mike Coble and Byron taking on Justin Rohberg and St. Charles. These are two of the better talents in that area and night one should be excellent. When NHR gets their private plane in action, this would be a game I would be at in a heartbeat (unfortunately I have to teach at 730am).
- The Farmington/Mayo game makes me curious because seeing these teams without Zach Speikers and Dan Jech would be interesting. Neither have been picked with high expectations but these are teams eager to prove that notion incorrect.
- The blowout of the night will be Mankato East over New Ulm so it won't be that interesting but the debut of Krisean Coffee and some of the young Cougars makes this interesting.
- Is Princeton better? Did the Grassroots games help Brady Peterson and his crew? They will find out when they take on Kody Dwyer and Zimmerman
- Mesabi East is at Two Harbors as well.
- There is a jamboree tonight that closes the preseason and there are numerous games on Friday night. That said, opening night is tomorrow night so get out and see a game!
