I like the set up of this league. It's in and out Sunday night. No time wasting. You are on a team, you play at 6:30, you play at 7:30, done at 8:30. Two games, all in the same building, courts right next to one another.
Team names are simple, they are the same color as your jersey. Really no way to get things confused with that set up. Several known local hoop heads coaching, several standouts playing. Centrally located at the Colin Powell Center. Like it
I wasn't there long before the wife called me home but the time I did spend I saw a few things, check it out below.
The League Notes
- Theo John hurt his ankle to some degree so best wishes to him. Theo looks in even better shape than before. Highlight for me was watching him swat an attempt near the top of the block.
- McKinley Wright was late for the game I watched. His team was done several buckets but once he showed up, everything changed. His impact on the game is quite clear.
- Watched Jack Hutchison play some point guard and he was better than I expected as that was the first time I had seen him play the position. Handled well, distributed well.
- Charlie Irmiger continues to get up and down well meaning that agility and timing is getting better every day. Also liked his low post foot work on a couple of moves on the block. Looks like he is continuing to work on his skill regularly.
- Nathan Reuvers looks like he's grown another inch. The amount of name schools coming in to see him is impressive and based on his size and agility at that size it make sense.
- Monticello guard Matt Todd has made a nice name for himself at this four week event. His control with the ball is captivating as is his ability to make a play in a heartbeat with limited space.
- I continue to be a big believer in what Anthony Davis can be. So athletic and you can play the young Hopkins talent at a couple spots. I watch him and think, Andre Wallace maybe.
- Goanar Mar played a lot of lead guard for his team and he looked very comfortable doing it. The touch was pure on four jump shots I observed and the most amusing moment was some guy six inches shorter taking a four step run at him and trying to lay the ball over his reach. Nope.
- Chris Moore of Hill-Murray is a solid 6-foot-6 that is tough to move so getting position on him or stopping him from getting where he wants is quite tough.
- Demetrius Edwards-Brown. The Henry scorer lived up to his reputation slashing to produce in transition or on reversals several times during my viewing. Excellent touch on the move with length in front of him or not.
- Michael Hurt scored at the arc, in transition, on a post up one hander, from the foul line, and on a putback in the few minutes I watched him play. Guy knows how to score in just about every way right now and that knowledge is going to make him more productive early at the next level than people know.
- Michael, Matthew Hurt, Daniel Crandall, Jarius Cook, Khari Broadway, Levi Wylie, Parker Fox, and Quinn McMorrow were on Team Maroon which was the league champs.
