Nathan Reuvers is a 6-foot-9 Lakeville North junior power forward that is growing by the day. He’s also getting division one offers by the day (13 total). Reuvers recently visited the Minnesota campus for an unofficial visit.
“It was amazing,” Reuvers said of his time on the Twin Cities campus. “The Barn is a really cool place and it was great to watch the team practice.
“The thing that really stood out to me was the football facilities. I'm a big college football fan and I was really impressed with TCF Bank Stadium.”
Minnesota will need to continue to add with it’s 2017 class and although they are only expected to have two or three scholarships to give, they are watching Reuvers close as they consider his ability for their future.
There is one current Gopher that Nathan sees himself in a similar role.
“Joey King is a guy that I see myself similar to,” Nathan said. “He sets a lot of ball screens and pops. I see that in my game a lot too.”
The Reuvers offer list includes Creighton, DePaul, Air Force, Duquesne, San Diego, Santa Clara, NDSU, Boston U, and many others. He’s also hearing from several programs that traveled to the Twin Cities this month to Reuvers at open gym.
“I have had 12 schools come in so far,” Reuvers said. “Lots more are planning on coming. Santa Clara, Drake, Wisconsin-Green Bay, San Diego, Saint Louis, Creighton, Air Force, Washington State, UNI, Minnesota, Colorado, and Saint Joseph have all been in already. Should be a couple more in next week too.”
As a sophomore Reuvers was in the rotation at the start of the year and had really good early season games against Bloomington Jefferson and Wayzata but the long winter was tough at times before he had a strong end to the season.
Nathan went for double figures in five of his last night games including a key 11 points against Hopkins in the state tournament that helped the Panthers move on to the semi-finals.
Reuvers had a fantastic showing with the Minnesota Fury in April, May, and July which led to him picking up 13 D1 offers and now has led to high expectations for the 6-foot-9, and growing, forward.
June 2015 Update
Lakeville North forward Nathan Reuvers grew a half a foot this year and is now a skilled 6-foot-9 junior-to-be that colleges are following closely. Nathan visited Minnesota unofficially last Friday and talked to NHR about the visit with his family.
“I would say my visit to Minnesota went really great,” said Reuvers. “It’s a great facility. It’s the nicest basketball place I’ve ever seen or been to. I really liked their locker room and facilities. I really liked their coach staff as well. I met with the players and I think they are really good guys.
“I’d say going onto the basketball court at Williams Arena, walking around the arena, and then going into the locker rooms was the best part. It was a really good experience.”
Reuvers and his family talked with Pitino both at the Bierman Athletic Complex and at Williams Arena and came away impressed with the staff.
“Coach Pitino is a great guy. He’s a young coach, and he’s doing a lot of successful things at the U and I think they should have a pretty successful season next year.”
Monday was the first day that schools could contact 2017 recruits and Nathan heard from Minnesota as well as some schools at the mid and low levels of division one basketball.
“Nathan Reuvers has had Drake, DePaul, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, UNC Greensboro, and Minnesota test him so far today,” said Fury Coach Pete Zurn.
“I have got calls from Boston U and UNC-Greensboro today who have both offered me,” Nathan explained. “I’ve also heard from Richard Pitino who called me this morning, I got a call from Princeton.”
In addition to his recent Minnesota trip Reuvers said he is planning an August trip to Boston U.
The Fury is 24-4 on the season and is a talented bunch that Nate has enjoyed playing with. Reuvers has progressed with the group greatly.
“I think I’ve been really progressing,” Reuvers said. “Before the summer I really hadn’t heard anything from any coaches at all. Now today I’m getting calls from different coaches.
“Playing with the Fury has been great, it was the right decision for me to play on that team. We have received great college looks from the events we’ve been in, I play with a great group of guys, and our team has only lost four games his summer. Things are going really good.””
Nathan will join a talented senior guard group next year as the North Panthers are thinking about more conference, section, and state gold for their trophy case.
“We won’t have many big men on our team in terms of posts so we will be playing with a lot of three point shooters on the outside,” Nathan explained. “We got Carter Brooks, David Lindstrand, Drew Stewart, Cal Pesola, all of those guys can all shoot.
“We are looking to be a repeating force in the South Suburban Conference and we are looking to win the section again for the fifth year in a row.”
