Recruiting Report: Max May (2018)
By now you have heard about the battles that Max May of Burnsville has overcome. But what’s next for this Blaze senior?
“My junior year was great, but a little unfulfilling,” May said. “I played a lot and really well, but it was JV. I had hoped to be playing varsity but I had missed my sophomore year and some of the beginning of AAU to cancer.”
May has dealt with obstacles that few others have and he’s become a better person because of it. But he also missed a year of hoops so his 17u basketball season was very important.
“This summer to get ready for my senior year I played for the Minnesota Heat,” Max said. “I also went to camps at Jamestown in North Dakota and Waldorf in Iowa. I also have been working with two personal basketball trainers as well as lifting and cardio.”
The work has been there but what does Max want to work on specifically to prep for his final season?
“I think I can improve in all areas of my game, but I have specifically been working on driving to the basket and getting better defensively.”
The Burnsville Blaze are a sleeper of a team. They actually lose their top four scorers but there are some talented guys ready to fill bigger roles. Marcus Shepley is a talented junior, Ty Miklowski turned a major corner this summer, Josh Kamara had a strong freshmen year, Drew Ihenacho is now an experience big, and then you of course have Max who has been thinking of this season for so long.
“We are going to be a solid team and give everyone a challenge,” May said. “We lost some key players but we have two seniors returning to varsity. As well as a few juniors. I think the key is that we are all very unselfish and put winning first.”
And if you’ve seen May play you know that he will do whatever it takes for his team to win.
“My team goal is to take Burnsville to state. If that means individually I need to score, play better defensively, or set up my teammates better I would be fine with any of that. I feel like I can do whatever is asked of me.”
May recently was offered a scholarship to a school south of the Minnesota border and a few other programs are also talking to him.
“I have been offered by Waldorf and really like their coaching staff. I have seen Jamestown, University of Wisconsin Superior, UMD, and Augsburg in person.”
