Stevens has the ball on a string. He has a knack for dribbling the rock with his head up and always closely examining the floor—where his teammates are cutting from, where the defender’s eyes are, and where the help is coming from—and it makes him an elite passer and decision maker. He has a super fundamental dribbling style and always seems in control, and he’s never too flashy when it comes to his isolation moves when he needs to create offense. Stevens will probably be a highly sought after D3 player but will have a chance to get some scholarship looks as he’ll likely start at the PG position for Choate this coming season.

Stevens really impressed me on Thursday. The 5-foot-11 guard was one of the better table setters I saw; he has a great head on his shoulders and knows how to push the defenses’ buttons. The rising senior is ultra-quick with the ball in his hands and has the rock on a string, so he can get to his spots in the paint effortlessly. Once he gets there, he does a good job getting to two feet and an even better job using quick, wrong-footed layups to surprise opposing bigs. He also shot the ball well from three today, though a quicker release would do wonders for him and his recruitment. Stevens will be the starting PG for Choate this season if I had to guess.

Stevens is the ultimate floor general. He stays so close to the ground on all his crossover and hesitation moves and is therefore so difficult to take the ball from — he’s under control and getting to two feet at all times. He gets paint touches because of his quickness and burst and will NEVER try to do too much on his passes out to shooters. He just makes the right play over and over again, which will be key for a Choate team where he probably won’t have to put up 20 per game for them to be super successful. But when the defense doesn’t collapse, he can still make them pay by finishing at the hoop and making the open three. Definite D3 prospect despite his lack of size.
