The latest 2026 rankings are live and while most of the time it's the offense that gets the attention, I want to take a look at some of the top defensive players lining up at point guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='2173114' first='Ohmono' last='Bomet'] Garfield

An excellent athlete who has the length to guard multiple positions on the wings, Bomet has great recovery speed and anticipation, not to mention an outstanding motor. He can lock down guards outside but is also a playmaker by the rim with his shot-blocking and ability to chase plays down in the open court or from the weak side.

[player_tooltip player_id='1863250' first='Jordan' last='Bennett'] Emerald Ridge

Bennett is a kid who has leaned heavily on his defense as the rest of his game matured and even as he has flourished on the offensive side, he still goes out there and grinds defensively. He forces pick-ups, turns his man relentlessly, and pounces on the ball if you give him an opening. He's one of the toughest on-ball defenders in his class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1587980' first='Ismail' last='Guyo'] Nathan Hale

Guyo is a little bit of a different makeup than the rest of these guards. He's a 6-foot-4, lanky guard who can really provide a different look defensively as well as slot into different roles on that end with his length and versatility. He still moves extremely well outside but has that extra bit of stretch to recover when beaten or on closeouts that make getting shots off around him that much more difficult.

[player_tooltip player_id='2173112' first='Seamus' last='Williams'] Jackson

Williams isn't just a good defender, he's a tough kid too. He's shown he has the mindset to attack whatever job is set before him and he's willing to sacrifice shots if it means selling out defensively to lock down the opposing team's best player. He's got quick feet, anticipates passing lanes well, and is also really strong for a point guard. He's able to play physical defense and wear guys down over the course of a game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1927274' first='Reed' last='Nagel'] Glacier Peak

Nagel is another Wesco guard who plays stingy defense and with exceptional toughness. He's going to be as physical as he can get away with and has the wind to get after it all game long. He gets up into ballhandlers, is constantly bouncing around off the ball, and finds ways to sneak into plays against bigger players to make plays on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2021597' first='Levi' last='Orbino'] O'Dea

Orbino is one of the quickest players in his class and it shows up big on the defensive end. He will turn ballhandlers four or five times up the court, and nearly every time down, really slowing the pace of an opposing offensive and making guards work for every inch. He can shut down drives with his quick feet, draws charges regularly, and can really throw off opposing players with his constant presence.

The latest 2026 rankings are live and while most of the time it's the offense that gets the attention, I want to take a look at some of the top defensive players lining up at point guard.
