The 2024 Francis Marion University Team Camp was held on Friday, June 14th, and Saturday, June 15th. I was very excited to get out of the Upstate for the weekend and check out some teams and prospects from the Midlands, Pee Dee, and Lowcountry that I otherwise would not have. Check out these six Guards who stood out from the weekend in Florence:
We begin our list of Standout Guards from the Francis Marion Team Camp with Kamauri Hunter Kamauri Hunter 5'5" | PG Heathwood Hall | 2026 State SC of Heathwood Hall. Hunter had a good balance of games in the two I saw of the Highlanders this weekend. In Game 1, he showed his ability to beat defenders off the dribble and score near the basket. He adjusted well to the bodies in the paint and got better at finishing at the rim as the game went on, finishing with 20 Points. In Game 2, Kamauri was in more of a facilitating role, excelling in the pick-and-roll and getting his teammates involved with 6 Assists. Heathwood Hall went 1-1 on Friday, and Hunter had a clutch, go-ahead bucket in Game 2’s win.

Bryce is a Top 5 player in the 2027 Class and I’ve been hearing great things, so I was excited to see him for the first time in person on Saturday. He is a gifted scorer who excels at navigating bodies in the lane and creating space with dribble moves and setbacks. Ward has a great handle and makes good decisions while he has the rock, although he is looking to score first. In Cathedral’s first game of the day against Marion, Bryce went for 23 including some clutch moments down the stretch in the win. The shooting is something he can improve as he develops, but he did knock down 2 threes in that game.

Gamble is a new face in a new place this season as he switched over from West Florence to South Florence. He fits in with this Bruins squad very nicely as he can be effective on or off the ball. Josh had most of his usage as the Point Guard, balancing the many mouths to feed on the offensive end well. However, he is also a knockdown three-point shooter which adds a unique wrinkle when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. Gamble is also a very good defender who you can trust on an opponent’s Point Guard. He put up 8 Points on 2-4 3FG with 4 Assists in a win over Cathedral, earning an early rest as his team got up by a good margin in the second half.

Kayson had a couple of really exciting moments for Hartsville in their win over East Clarendon in Florence. He was the most efficient player of the day, going for 18 Points on just two misses from the field. While a lot of his work was in transition, Dawson still knocked down both of his attempts from behind the arc. He displayed his body control in attacks, defensive instincts, vision, and athleticism. Kayson also helped his team be successful even when he didn’t have the ball in his hands, as he filled the lane correctly in transition and spaced the floor with his shooting.
Wells Hill Wells Hill 6'0" | PG North Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC is the only Rising Senior in my Standout Guards list from the event. He had a major scoring game in the win over Kingstree Saturday Morning, going for 25 Points. In that contest, Wells put a ton of pressure on the Kingstree defense with his frequent downhill drive. He got to the free-throw line early and often, using it to get in rhythm early and seal the game late. Hill turns corners well and has a nasty crossover, displaying both in his attempts to get to the bucket. North Myrtle Beach was the team I saw the most this weekend and Hill rarely turned the ball over or forced bad shots for the Chiefs.

Medalie is an exciting long-term prospect who left a great impression at the Francis Marion Team Camp. He is a great shooter with good positional size, meaning he will have a high floor as a Guard at the next level. The shooting caused issues early for his matchup, knocking down his first two attempts and forcing the defense to adjust to his game. He has the ability to play either position in the backcourt and was used as the Point Guard for some possessions for the Armada. Seeger also plays hard on the defensive end, racking up 4 Steals in the win over Andrew Jackson.
