Recruiting Report: Nate Rund (2018)
Skilled Fergus Falls guard Nate Rund played in front of NSIC coaches countless times with the Minnesota Comets (a team that sends many alumni to that conference each year). He told Northstar Hoops recently that he sees himself at exactly that level.
“I am planning to play in the NSIC, in Minnesota,” he said. “The SMSU visit is coming up soon, and I am planning visits with Sioux Falls and St. Cloud State.
“I want the place to feel like home to me. (I’m looking for) the vibe that it’s a winning program and the relationships with the players are good.”
His AAU coach, Chris Lewis, compared his game and character to several past Comets guards.
“Nate Rund is a tad undersized for an NSIC shooting guard,” he said, “but like many before him — Nate Miller, Mack Johnson, Arvidson, etc. — who were undersized, Nate will find a way to score at that level. Nate has the drive and ability to be a ‘lock-up’ defender and will quickly become a team leader both on the floor and in the classroom in the same way Christian Pekarek, Ryan Bruggeman, and Bryce Irsfeld did at their respective schools.”
Lewis went on to further commend Rund’s intangibles.
“Nate is the kind of kid who can change a program’s culture,” he added. “(Nate) is a ‘first guy in, last guy out’ worker who loves the game of basketball and is as mature and self-aware a kid as you will find in this entire class. He is a coach’s kid who is like a second coach on the floor.
“You will see Nate Rund win an NSIC title someday, mark my words.”
Nate led Fergus Falls in scoring last year with 15.8 PPG. Along with returner Harrison Christensen, the Otters will undoubtedly be looking to make another state tournament run.
