Several impact players were critical in their team’s wins, but let’s take a look at some hoopers who made their impact felt.
Dre Charlot
Dre Charlot
Dre was a main playmaker in his team’s primetime tournament win over Humble. Charlot possesses the ability to control the game pace at will and is very efficient when being the main ballhandler. Dre showed the ability to score in multiple ways as well, driving past his defender to the basket or knocking down a shot if the defender left him space. Charlot is slowly making a case as one of the best 2025 prospect guards in Houston and will be a key factor for this Eagles team moving forward.
Gio Guzman
Gio Guzman
Gio Guzman was a big force in the paint for the Mustangs during their win over Alief Taylor at the BH Fieldhouse on Friday morning. Guzman used a variety of post moves to score the basketball over the defense and was also physical on the rebounds, grabbing several clutch boards and laying it back up or passing it out to the open man for a shot. Guzman came away with close to a double-double this game and will continue making a rebound underneath coming off the bench.
Jacob Cao
Jacob Cao
Jacob was a great playmaker for his Alvin team in their contest against Montgomery. He dished out 6 assists and finished several midrange jumpers over his defender. Cao always knew where his teammates would be on the floor, throwing them dimes for open shots to beat the defense. Jacob possesses a great awareness for the offensive end and also showed great footwork on defense, notching several steals away from his matchup and finishing on the fastbreak. Look for Alvin to have a good year and look to continue their fundamental basketball. Cao has the ability to make a big impact on both ends as a vocal leader and a floor general.
