Recruiting Report: Garrison Bailey (2018)
Every time we watched Club Ohio (Pierce) during the grassroots season, 6’4” wing/forward Garrison Bailey (2018) would make a couple tough plays when the team needed it. He’s a jack of all trades. But, even more than that, he’s simply reliable.
His Club Ohio coach, Rodrick Pierce, refers to Bailey as a “glue guy.”
“Garrison will give you 10-14 points a game and a couple rebounds, a couple steals, and a block … I told the team at the beginning of the season that there’s kids that will start and kids that won’t start. But Garrison was always going to [start] because I could count on him,” Pierce said.
While Bailey told us that he sees himself as a 3 that could play a stretch-4 role, he’s a bit of positionless prospect. While that could scare a program away from the Winton Woods prospect, Pierce said he never found himself wondering how to fit Bailey into a game.
However, at 6’4”, Bailey would like to have more of an impact from the perimeter.
“Right now, I’m working on my quickness, so I can guard 1s and 2s and switch a lot easier,” Bailey said.
In regards to college recruitment, Bailey enters his senior year at Winton Woods without a scholarship offer.
Most of his contact with colleges has come from attending camps this summer.
“I went to the University of Indianapolis for a camp [last] weekend. Then, I’m going to St. Francis (IN) [this] week. So, a lot of D-II schools. Then, a couple D-III schools have texted me, like St. Joe’s and Thomas More,” Bailey said.
When we spoke with Pierce, he also informed us that Defiance, Mount St. Joseph, Wilmington, and Holy Cross, are keeping an eye on Bailey.
“Right now, I’m just looking for some type of scholarship … As far as basketball goes, I like team style of play. I just want to find a school that plays as a team. As far as unselfishness and things like that,” Bailey said.
Bailey would fit in nicely with a group of players who sacrifices ego for the betterment of the team. He’s a player who is willing to do the small things, as he’s a self-aware player who doesn’t need the ball to be impactful.
Bailey carries an 18 ACT score and is unaware of his accumulative GPA.
