Recruiting Report: Collin Lister (2019)
A recent stock-riser in Iowa’s 2019 prospect rankings, Carlisle guard Collin Lister just wrapped up his 16U season with All Iowa Attack, and has seen his recruitment spike.
Right now, during the beginning stages of his recruitment, Lister has a wide-range of interest, from NAIA to D1.
“I’ve seen some interest from South Dakota State, Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney, Grand View, Briar Cliff, Morningside, a bunch of those guys have been texting me. And I went to an open gym at Grand View recently, their coach has been texting me a lot,” said Lister.
“I’ve been in contact with Coach (TJ) Otzelberger at South Dakota State, and a bunch of letters from schools too. I went to Augustana’s elite camp this summer and played really well there, and have been in contact with their coach too.”
Lister also mentioned that he was invited to a North Dakota elite camp later this summer.
The rising-junior still has two high school seasons and one grassroots campaign left to see his recruitment materialize.
Now, he’s in the gym daily working to improve. The recruitment will follow.
“My freshman year I was more of just a catch-and-shoot kind of guy and it was easy to defend. So last year I knew I had to become more of a dual-threat, so I was focused on doing that, and that really helped me a lot,” said Lister.
“And I’ve been working on my defense and being a vocal leader, and making sure guys were in the right spots and things like that.”
As a key piece for one of Iowa’s best 16U squads, All Iowa Attack, Lister says he learned a lot, and emphasized how much fun it was playing with those guys.
“This 16U season was a lot of fun with All Iowa Attack, we won a lot of tournaments and I played with a lot of good guys so it was easy to have fun,” he said.
“And ever since July has been done, I’ve just been getting into the gym and working on being stronger and quicker and things like that.”
As he heads into his junior season with the Wildcats, Lister has one main goal: to put Carlisle basketball on the map.
“I’m going to have to be the vocal leader and lead by example, and get the guys motivated to believe that we can win. Carlisle has never been known much as a basketball town, it’s always been known for softball and baseball,” said Lister.
“So just getting people to believe that we can win, and we can make some noise will be my big thing. And just be focused, that’s all it really takes.”
