Rylan was making things happen for MN Heat GVR’s offense in an opening round win. The 6’0” guard is so quick with the ball in his hands and was able to make very difficult drives and finishes to the basket look easy. He is a great finisher at full speed with either hand and was tough to stay in front of. With his attacking, he was amazing in the pick & roll as well, hitting teammates with perfect one-hand bounce passes for open layups. Happel is also a major threat from deep, as he was connecting on three-point looks off the dribble and off the catch.

It is rare to see someone under 6-foot be able to truly dominate a game, but Rylan did just that in the action I saw. The 5’11” guard is lightning quick, as no defender could stay in front of him. He had some impressive finishes inside and could locate teammates on the perimeter and hit them with accurate passes. Happel is also an automatic option from deep, as he hit on six threes in Saturday’s win.

Happel is undersized, but he uses his body to create space. Rylan has a great handle and he controls pace/tempo when pressured. He is a knockdown shooter. Happel is primed for a big junior season for the Mustangs.

Don’t let Rylan’s size fool you, this kid is as tough as they come. He has taken a major jump this summer so far with Heat GVR. Rylan consistently gets into the paint to create separation and makes tough mid rangers. He also has a great 3 ball. I’ve watched Rylan go up against much bigger/stronger guys and he continues to hold his own. Should be one of the go to guys for Mounds View next year, look for Rylan this weekend to keep up his high level play.
