A nice complimentary piece for his team, Stumpf checks a lot of boxes for his team. A physical wing guard who can pass, rebound and make shots from the outside, Stumpf was efficient and played his role well for a winning team. Big Walnut has a lot of talent in their program and Stumpf and Ohio Buckets 16 U teammate Carson School both impressed on Friday. One of the better multi-sport athletes in central Ohio, Stumpf will get college interest for both basketball and football.

Stumpf is a confident kid. He has a good skill set and can shoot the ball; he has the belief in this skill set. When you have confidence as a huge scorer. You are more aggressive, and more shots will go in for you. Against Licking Heights, they played a zone, and Stumpf found his spots well. He was able to get his shots up and knock them down. He did a good job of cutting to the middle of the zone and creating for himself and others.

Stumpf showcased his ability to impact the game in all facets. He showed that he could score from behind the arc hitting his fair share of three point field goals. He got to different spots off the bounce and was a frequent paint toucher. He also showed that he could share the sugar. Stumpf finished with 12 points two threes and a few makes from the foul line. He has good positional size at the two guard spot.

Stumpf is a complete bucket getter. He is someone that I was waiting for him to have his moment in this game when he would start scoring and he patiently waited for the defense to start giving him lanes to attack. I like the maturity he showed because he never forced anything. He just showed off his clean stroke and made timely shots. He turned up the aggressiveness a ton in the 4th. He showed confidence and competitiveness.

Stumpf is an impressive bucket getter. I expect him to have a big year at Big Walnut. He has the confidence and ability to put a lot of points on the board. After having a good AAU season for the Ohio Buckets he will be ready to take the next step this year. He just simply makes shots. He gets to his spots on the court well. He has a simple bag of one or two dribbles and pulls up well. He can hit shots off the dribble or off the catch-and-shoot. He has an impressive ability to create his own shot.

Aaron Stumpf was recently named the head coach of Big Walnut and he takes over a program with a ton of young talent, headlined by his oldest son Eli. I caught one game of Big Walnut on Thursday and Stumpf was knocking down some contested shots. An efficient game from Stumpf, he plays off two feet from the wing and is able to operate in tight spaces by creating contact first. With a lot of 2027 talent on the roster there will be some growing pains under a new head coach, but this is a team that has the upside to beat almost anybody in Columbus come winter time.

Stumpf completely took the game over for the
Ohio Buckets
15U squad. The Buckets got down early in their game and were fighting their way back for the win and Stumpf’s big-time second half did it. He got into the rhythm of the game and it was over. He was making shots from beyond the arc and attacking the basket greatly. He does a great job of slowing down and body control when going to finish at the rim. It creates space for him to get shots off against more athletic players. He wanted the ball in his hands late because he knew he was going to score and lead his team to the win.

One of the top players on the Ohio Buckets 15 U EYCL group, Stumpf had a big showing against Wildcat Select 3SSB with 27 points and four 3-pointers. Another player who attended our freshman showcase, Stumpf shot the ball at a high level from the perimeter at that event as well. For Big Walnut as a freshman, Stumpf got experience coming off the bench and using his size to defend and rebound, combined with his floor spacing ability. Excited for the future of the Big Walnut program with a lot of talent in the 2025-2027 class returning and Stumpf might just be the best of the bunch when it’s all said and done.
