Catching Up With J.Cone
We got the chance on Sunday to chat with Guard Jalen Cone who has spent the spring and summer with Team Loaded. Cone is a player that we have seen for a few years now, not only does he have a very mature game but he also has a mature attitude off the court and is a humble young man who is a joy to speak with. Cone is currently ranked #2 in our rankings from the class of 2020.
Q: How has the experience this Spring and Summer been?
Jalen: Experience has been amazing. I’ve been taking in every scenario watching 17’s play with the crazy atmosphere and all the college coaches on the sideline and seeing the treatment the top guys get. Just been telling myself that’s where I want to be and I’ll do anything to get there.
Q: What do you feel you bring to a team on and off the floor?
Jalen: On the court I bring everything. I’m being a leader and encouraging teammates on missed and made shots. When we loose our momentum I pick it back up and I get all my teammates open shots and create for them. I averaged 7 assist a game this summer and had multiple games where my assist was in double figures so I feel I got better with that. I also score the ball anytime I want on all three levels. I averaged 22 points a game this summer and I feel that helped my team out a lot this year. I’m also a full court defender and like to put pressure on whoever I’m guarding. Off the floor I bring my great personality. Me and my team is always having fun away from the event grounds.
Q: During the live periods I’m sure you had the chance to play in front of a nice amount of college coaches, how does that feel and what school have been showing interest.
Jalen: I had a chance to play in front of a few college coaches. Playing 15u we’re never at the main facility so we don’t play with baseline full of college coaches but the ones I got to I played great as an individual and as a teammate controlling the floor and getting all my players some shine. I’ve picked up interest from Clemson and Oklahoma State.
Q: Favorite Sneaker to play in?
Jalen: My favorite sneaker to play in is definitely the Lillards 2’s. They came out the summer of 2016 but I had to get ask for a few more pair for the summer of 2017. They don’t have a whole bunch going on and they support my ankle and are the most comfortable on my feet. The 2017 Adidas shoes were nicer than my Lillard 2’s but I just needed something to get the job done and not be a pretty boy
Q: Favorite Pregame ritual?
Pregame I listen to the lion speech from the movie ‘Poolhall Junkies’.
Q: As a fellow brother in Christ I have a few favorite scripture versus. What’s your Favorite scripture verse?
Jalen: My favorite scripture is Proverbs 16:3, “commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed”. I love that verse because it helps me with life and not just basketball. Every time I do something or wherever I go I want to represent Christ and spread the word of God to others.
