Prospect Spotlight: Caiden Smith (2018)

Tippecanoe senior Caiden Smith (2018) has been having a great summer on the basketball court. He has averaged 25 points per game as well as 4-5 rebounds and assists as well. His success this summer will likely carry over into Fall/Winter ball as he has high hopes for the Red Devils come opening night.
One of Caiden’s best strengths is his ability to finish through contact as well as his ability to create plays without the ball or off the dribble. These are rare for a guard, especially at 6’1”, but Caiden plays physical and makes defenders respect him. I also like his 3PT shot, where he shot 38% last year. Don’t believe me? Ask the Sidney Yellow Jackets, who Smith attacked shooting 4-5 from beyond the arc to go along with his 22 points scored that game.
One of the areas Caiden must improve is his on the ball defense. Tipp only returns Caiden and another returning starter, and he will be asked to run the backcourt and guard Tippecanoe’s opponent’s best guard. Considering the league the Red Devils play in, he will be expected to defend Andre Gordon from Sidney, as well as physical guard Ben Schmiesing from Piqua, and sharpshooter Michael Kreill from Butler among others. And this is just the guys in his division.
For November, Caiden wants the Red Devils to go at least .500 and make it through the Sectional round. After finishing 11-13 last season, I can see easily finishing above .500 and with Tipp now adjusted to the toughness in the GWOC, I believe they are ready to challenge the CBC schools come tournament time. Another goal of his will be to get his first offer. Currently, not in contact with any coaches or receiving any interest, Caiden will use this season as a platform and try to impress a few coaches to bring him on board.
