The Maryland Boys Basketball Classic took place this weekend at Wise High School featuring several public schools from around the state. In this article, we'll look at some prospects that stood out among the rest for Sunday's slate of games.

[player_tooltip player_id='2241989' first='Cayden' last='Hargrove'] | Wise '25

I always enjoy getting to the gyms for the first slate of games because you can truly tell which players want to be there. Wise opened up the day against Forest Park and it was Hargrove who stood out shortly after taking my seat. An undersized forward who showcased some perimeter skills in short stints, Hargrove fills the role of an anchor for the Pumas. He ran the floor with purpose and was rewarded for his efforts. He crashed the glass at both ends and was effective in finishing through contact on second-chance opportunities. He game-high of 18 points was a big reason why his team escaped with a victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='2242042' first='Rhodell' last='Wood'] | Forest Park '25

Forest Park's backcourt of Wood and 2024 [player_tooltip player_id='2231836' first='Amare' last='Stewart'] had to shoulder the load today as the Foresters only had five players. Wood did a nice job of teeing off from three while mixing in strong straight-line drives. When he wasn't getting a bucket, Wood was forcing the defense to collapse in the paint and quickly locating the open man. Despite the loss, the 6-foot guard was effective as he posted 16 points.

Evin Thompson | Sherwood '25

Thompson's name started to spread during Sherwood's successful 2022-23 campaign, but he looks prepared to take on more of the production heading into his junior season. His infectious energy flows through his teammates and whether he was knocking down three's off swing passes, pulling up from the mid-range in transition or slithering his way to the basket for quick layups, Thompson's fingerprints were all over the game. He led the Warriors past Largo with 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1371867' first='Cameron' last='Ward'] | Largo '25

Coaches from Georgetown, Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame and Penn State filed into the gym to watch our No. 1 ranked prospect in 2025. The 6'7 hybrid forward had just under a handful of dunks in the first half and consistently visited the free-throw line in the second on his way to 22 points. Ward also showed off his passing off the live dribble as he got into the paint to create open looks for teammates in the corners.

[player_tooltip player_id='2231839' first='Shamir' last='Taylor'] | St. Charles '25

Taylor recorded a well-balance floor game in a tough win over Frederick Douglass that was capped off by his game-winning free-throws. He's a trustworthy floor general who can operate while being pressured and does a nice job of using leverage to get where he needs to go. His 19 points paired with his plays made in crunch time were both major contributing factors in the victory.

Chris Henderson | Oxon Hill '24

The game between Oxon Hill and Lake Clifton was anything but pretty, but Oxon Hill would end up on the winning side of things after going scoreless for the first eight minutes of play. Henderson found his groove in the second half by moving without the ball and finding open windows within the Lakers' zone defense. He spent much of the first half settling from deep, but in the second half operated from 10-to-15 feet in face-ups where he'd either rise above the defender for jumpers or get downhill to the rim, creating contact on his way. Henderson would finish with a game-high 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1768958' first='Tyrell' last='Bowles'] | CH Flowers '25

Bowles ended his sophomore season with significant momentum thanks to his shot-erasing ability. It didn't take long to see the instinctual timing and length that covers ground from the weakside in person. His overall offensive skillset is still a work in progress, but he's certainly capable of finishing around the rim and as the game progressed today, he was embracing more contact in the air. Flowers would take a loss to Sherwood, but Bowles had his bright spots scoring 16 points, collecting double-digit rebounds and swatting away a handful of shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1955968' first='Marcus' last='Jackson'] | Edmondson-Westside '25

Jackson held an individual dunking clinic in the final game of the day against Bowie. The Red Storm would go onto win behind his double-double of 13 points, 14 rebounds and just utter domination in the paint at both ends. When he wasn't tearing the rim off on the offensive end, Jackson was sending layup attempts into the bleachers with authority. He totaled seven blocks in his performance and showed why we have him so high in our 2025 rankings.

Xavier Davis | Edmondson-Westside '25

Davis made his presence felt from deep shortly after tip-off when Bowie went to a zone look on defense. The 6-foot guard wasn't shy about letting it go after seeing his first two fall and his shot-making throughout would be crucial in countering a relentless Bowie squad that wouldn't go away.
