Brandon had 25 points and several huge shots in the 4th quarter and overtime as St. John Bosco (CA) advanced to the Platinum bracket championship, winning over Salsesian College Prep (CA) by the score of 68-66. McCoy Jr. showed off all the reasons why he’s one of the best pure prospects in the entire country on Friday night as he skied to block shots, threw down powerful dunks, and made jump shots with a high degree of difficulty off of the dribble.

Brandon had 19 points and a bevy of dunks in St. John Bosco’s win over Long Beach Poly. McCoy Jr.’s athleticism is quite simply on a different level than most of his peers in the state if not the entire western part of the country. He’s very difficult for kids to stay even with when he is attacking the basket but even when they are able to he tends to just jump over or around people to nonchalantly get to the rim. One of the only things you could nitpick about Brandon’s game is that he could be a more efficient three point shooter.

Brandon took over for large stretches of the camp games this weekend. McCoy Jr.’s quick first step, strength to stay in front of defenders, and athleticism to finish above the rim allow him to get into the paint at will against almost anyone and he took advantage with a bevy of powerful dunks. He is also able to effectively shoot the three, forcing defenders to try and close down the space that he has.

Brandon played a great all around game on Friday night against Owyhee in St. John Bosco’s first round win. He did a little bit of everything; finishing with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks on the defensive end. McCoy Jr. scored the ball at 3 levels, showed a good understanding of how to create offense out of the pick n’ roll, and of course used his elite athleticism to dominate in the open court.

continued his excellent summer with a strong performance on Friday against Palo Alto. McCoy Jr. showed off his explosive athleticism by finishing above the rim several times with powerful dunks, his touch around the basket by finishing with either hand, and his steadily improving jump shot. Brandon impacts the game on defense with his quick instincts and his long arms enable him to pick up tons of deflections and steals. He was a finalist for Team USA U16 this summer and his already high stock is just going to keep rising.
