Here are some new names that caught our eye during the two-day event.
Quincy Byas Quincy Byas 6'6" | SG Rosemary Anderson Prep | 2025 State OR , Rose City Rebels 17U Select (2025 Jesuit) – Long, and lanky lefty, Byas ran the floor well and showed the ability to finish at the cup. Hit some open jumpers. In the system at Jesuit so you know he’s being taught the team game.
Hunter Dunham Hunter Dunham 6'6" | PF Sandy | 2024 State OR , Rose City Rebels 17U Select (2024 Sandy) – Lanky and rangy, Dunham made plays around the hoop. He battled on the boards and was a factor blocking shots on defense. He also hit a couple of open shots showing off his versatility.
Drew Groenig Drew Groenig 5'10" | CG Southridge | 2026 State OR , GRIT (2026 Southridge) – Had the never met a shot he didn’t like mentality – probably because he was making them. Groenig stroked it really well from long range – sometimes way past the three-point line. Good size for a high school wing and lots of upside.
Owen Bentea Owen Bentea 6'0" | CG Roseburg | 2025 State OR , GRIT (2025 Roseburg) – Probably the most hard-nosed player we saw on the day – new to us or not. Simply plays hard on every possession and didn’t back down to anyone at any size, despite his own 6-foot-ish frame. Clearly a guy that won’t get outworked on the floor.
Kaiden Ford Kaiden Ford 6'2" | CG Cascade | 2025 State OR , Run & Shoot (2025 Cascade) – His outside shot might not have been clicking, but Ford made other plays that were critical in the game we watched where Run & Shoot defeated SC Panthers on their way to the 18U/17U title. He was in the right place at the right time for some putbacks around the hoop and overall played with a hard motor.
Alonzo Metz Alonzo Metz 5'10" | PG Jesuit | 2025 FL , Oregon Premier (2025 Jesuit) – Loved the feel for the game this point guard had – which is not surprising as he comes from Portland basketball royalty (uncle Erik coaches the Heat, grandfather Jon was a former NBA exec). We look forward to seeing more of him with Jesuit in the upcoming seasons.
Carter Dietz Carter Dietz 6'3" | SG Lake Oswego | 2025 State OR , Oregon Premier (2025 Lake Oswego) – Dietz had it going offensively in the game we watched, showing the ability to hit from the outside as well as create off of the dribble.
