Very rarely do you see players committed to play another sport in college make a huge senior season leap but that’s exactly what Air Force Baseball commit Charlie Russell Charlie Russell 6’5″ | PF Bishop Ready | 2023 State OH did this season. Taking his game to a new level, Russell would’ve been a scholarship level prospect at the Division II or NAIA level if he opted to make basketball his sport of choice. A big time shooter from the power forward position, Russell also used his size and athleticism to score around the paint. Not getting pushed off his spots, I was a big fan of watching Bishop Ready this season and their trio of seniors that made their offense click.
Maag has come a long way offensively from where he was about a year ago, being more confident with his back to the basket and able to finish with either hand. Maag always played hard, set good screens and rebounded but I think he could make an early impact at Ohio Northern due to his recent progression as an offensive player. The polar bears also signed Cayden Jacoby Cayden Jacoby 6’9″ | C Pettisville | 2023 State OH in the 2023 class, a more long term upside swing at the center position. I’m a big fan of this recruiting class for ONU and think this could help them get back near the top of their conference if they continue to grab top local talent.
An intriguing wing forward prospect, House showed some versatility with the ball in his hands during Whitmer’s playoff game that I caught. I thought House moved his feet very well for a guy his size and also could put it on the floor and attack a closeout. I think there’s some upside to be had down the line with House once he gets into a college strength program and adds more muscle to pair with his explosive athleticism and nimble feet.
Centerville was invited to The Throne Hoops public school national tournament, and I thought ‘Tommy’ had some impressive performances at that event. He plays hard, can score around the paint with his frame and touch at the rim. I was also impressed with how Gankhuyag defended in space against the quicker guards that he saw at the event. Should be an option for small college programs based on his production and ability to produce for one of the top high school programs in the Midwest, I expect colleges from a variety of levels to come calling about Gankhuyag.
