Preseason All-Conference: Southeast
Player of the Year: 2018 Brady Sartorius, Mount Pleasant
This conference has one of the most obvious choices of any in the state for the Player of the Year honor, and it’s the lead gun for Mount Pleasant. Sartorius is a gifted combo guard who led the league in scoring, assists and steals last year, while doing so with remarkable efficiency. A heady player who rarely makes mistakes, he’ll pace a Panthers team that will win this league handily, and is among the top 2-3 teams in Class 3A.
First Team
2018 Brady Sartorius, Mount Pleasant (21.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.8 steals, 58.6 FG%, 46.6 3P%)
Sartorius has been the best player in the league for a few years now, and he’ll be the best player in it again this year. He led not only his team, but the conference, in scoring, assists and steals last year, with ridiculous shooting splits of 59-47-75. The only real thing left for him to accomplish during his high school career? Bringing a state title home.
2018 Kaleb Cresswell, Fort Madison (14.7 points, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals, 75 3PM, 46.9 3P%)
The Bloodhounds leading scorer made 28 more 3-pointers than anyone else in the league did last season, and did so with some eye-popping efficiency, nearly shooting better from the arc (46.9%) than he did overall from the floor (47.3%). A true gunner, he and his Fort Madison teammates present the biggest threat to Mount Pleasant in this five-team league.
2018 Jordan Magnani, Mount Pleasant (12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.3 steals, 88.5 FT%)
Sartorius’ top running mate, Magnani is a solid do-everything guard who tied for the team/league lead in assists with Sartorius. He’s a quality two-way player who is capable of knocking down 3s, playing stellar defense and is one of the most reliable players in the state at the free throw line. The backcourt tandem that he forms with Sartorius will be among the best in Iowa.
2019 Carson Crile, Fairfield (15.1 points, 10.1 rebounds, 55.7 FG%)
Crile had a strong sophomore season for the Trojans, averaging a double-double and shooting nearly 56% from the floor. An undersized (6-3) power forward, he routinely outworks the competition on the glass and in the paint and plays with a non-stop motor. He headlines what should be one of the most improved teams in the state.
2018 Treavor Kokjohn, Fort Madison (12.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 52.2 FG%)
The 6-3 forward led the league in total rebounds last year (played in four more games than Crile), and tied with Magnani as the fourth leading scorer last year. He’s a double-double threat every night for the Bloodhounds.
