Recruiting Report: Andrew Niebuhr (2018)
At 6-foot-10 center Andrew Niebuhr of Jordan High School is a developing prospect competing for the Minnesota Fury and making an impression.
“Playing with Minnesota Fury has been a lot fun and hard work,” Andrew told NHR. “Every practice is a challenge but we still have fun, and we are always playing against really good teams and every game is a way to improve my game all around.”
At 19-7 the Fury Antl team is tied for the third most amount of wins in Minnesota so far. Niebuhr is accustomed to being on a winning team as his Jordan Hubmen went 25-4 this winter.
“This winter season I grew in many aspects of my game, including finishing through contact at and above the rim, playing aggressive and intense defense in the post and on the perimeter,” Andrew said.
“I increased my strength, speed and mental toughness. I took on the responsibility of leadership for my teammates both on and off the court. I will remember being a part of the most successful basketball team in our school’s history, as we made it to the Section Championship Game and bonding with my teammates over the season.”
Andrew played behind UMD signed big Jimmy Vollbrecht last year but will step into a huge role next winter as a senior.
“I’m working on my footwork and post moves, adding muscle and increasing my vertical and working on my jumper,” Andrew said.
“My goals for the summer are to come out of the two skills camps I am attending a more diversified and stronger player all around. Also, to win the rest of the tournaments that we have with the Fury.
“I want to have successful summer program with our team at Jordan High School. This will mentally prepare us for our goal to become State Champions this year.”
Recruiting is also on the mind of Andrew who is hearing from several college programs.
“I am going to visit college campuses this summer,” Andrew said. “I’ve been hearing from Augustana, Viterbo, Concordia-Moorhead, St. Scholastic.
“I haven’t taken any visits yet but I plan on visiting Concordia-Moorhead, Augustana, and Viterbo in June and July.”
