Prospect Spotlight: Jacoby Decker (2019)
His sophomore season might be in the books, but Bossier’s 5’8 guard Jocoby Decker has stayed working hard to get the attention of college coaches.
While he might not have gotten their attention yet, it is only a matter of time if he continues to play the way he has this summer so far for Team Louisiana Select Milsaps 16u. When asked about his strengths, Decker say “offensive wise, I think that I can get to the goal any time that I want. I can use my quickness to my advantage, and when I play off the ball, I can shoot it well from deep.”
That versatility on the offensive end has caught our attention, and as he continues to grow, I think he will continue to flow back and fourth between the 1 and 2 spots.
Decker has all of the physical tools to be a menace on the defensive end, and he was very successful this year playing off the ball in the “safety” role and getting steals that way. However, he wants to continue to work on his on ball defense, and using those physicals tools to become a lockdown defender, as well as becoming a better facilitator. “I think I need to work on my on ball defense, as well as developing more play making abilities at the point guard position.”
While he hasn’t started talking with colleges yet, he knows that taking care of business in the class room is just as important. “Right now I have about a 2.7 GPA, but I have been working hard to get it above a 3.0. As soon as I hit that goal, I’m going to set another goal for 3.5, and just keep working until I hit it.” Jacoby hasn’t taken the ACT/SAT yet.
