Week 9 Rankings Update
We’re headed into the final week of the regular season for 1A and 2A teams, and postseason brackets for those classes will be released tomorrow. Our final 2A committee meeting is scheduled to be held later this afternoon. three of the four top-ranked teams held serve this week, and all four classes have at least one newcomer to the rankings this week. We detail some of the key movement below.
In Class 1A, North Linn (19-0) and Grand View Christian (19-0) appear to be on a collision course. Gladbrook-Reinbeck (18-1) moves up a spot to #3 this week after avenging their only loss of the season, blasting Grundy Center by 31 on Friday night. Dunkerton (18-1) dropped a tough one to North Linn on Thursday, a game they led for more than a half, but rebounded nicely with a win over a quality 2A Hudson team on Saturday. The Raiders fall one spot to #6. Madrid (17-2) re-enters the rankings this week after an extended absence. The Tigers are one of the hottest teams in the class, winners of 14 straight, and their two losses have come by a combined four points.
Central Lyon (15-1) snatches the top ranking in Class 2A this week following a tough week for Western Christian (15-3). The Wolfpack lost to a pair of teams from South Dakota, both quality teams, but they didn’t look very good in those games and fall to #4 as a result. Beckman Catholic (15-5) enters the rankings this week in the midst of a six-game winning streak that includes quality wins over Monticello, Maquoketa, Wilton, and Bellevue.
Bondurant-Farrar (17-0) continues to have a stranglehold on the top of Class 3A, the lone undefeated team remaining in the class. MOC-Floyd Valley (15-2), the #2 team, is the only other team from last week’s rankings that stayed in the same spot. Waverly-Shell Rock (14-4) and Wahlert Catholic (10-8) enter the rankings at #9 and 10, respectively.
In Class 4A, Kennedy (16-0) remains the top-ranked team, followed again by Waukee (18-2), Waukee Northwest (16-2), and Valley (14-3). Centennial (13-5) and Senior (14-3) each re-enter the rankings this week at #8 and 9.
