The big man down in southern Indiana, [player_tooltip player_id='935728' first='Dylan' last='Watson'], remains one of the top centers in the 2023 class that remains on the board. At 6'9, Watson takes up so much space on both ends ends and paly physical when you need him to. For his size, he has a solid motor and has a real soft touch around the basket. Holds offers from Franklin and Hanover. He and Castle host Evansville Mater Dei on Tuesday.

As far as athletic guards in northern Indiana, it would be hard to find any that have it more than [player_tooltip player_id='1158178' first='Brauntae' last='Johnson']. He is a multi sport athlete and is a guy that can put up a lot of points on the basketball floor. He is extremely explosive and is someone that can make his defender lose track of him if he wants to. Fort Wayne North hosts Leo tonight and Concordia on 1/27.

If you want to talk about guys who look to be getting better and better, [player_tooltip player_id='1296984' first='Braylon' last='Mullins'] is that guy. Watched him last week and saw him drop 20+ points and he was doing it all three level. His defensive game was one thing that impresses the most because he has the length and quickness to guard the post and wing. High majors, including Butler, Purdue, and Indiana are starting to take an interest in the talented guard. He and Greenfield-Central will host Pendleton Heights (1/27) and play Bishop Chatard (1/28) in the Muncie Central Tournament.

3 Teams

Oak Hill (3A): The Golden Eagles have become one of the most consistent teams at the 3A level and currently sit at 13-1 this season. Ever since their loss at Norwell in early December, Oak Hill has racked off 11 straight wins. Senior SF Landon Beigel has been the true leader of this squad and Oak Hill has been going as he goes. Oak Hill is a dangerous team in northern Indiana. They host Madison-Gant on 1/27 and travel to Lapel on 1/28.

South Spencer (2A): The Rebels of South Spencer stand at 14-1 on the season and are easily one of the best teams at the 2A level. While this isn't a team with a ton of stars on their squad, this is a team that is coached extremely well and follows a game plan to a T. They have a good mixture of old and young guys. One guy out of that young to watch for in the coming years is 2025 guard [player_tooltip player_id='1297121' first='Ty' last='Brown']. Big week for South Spencer as they host Pike Central on 1/27 and travel to Heritage Hills on 1/28 for a big showdown there.

Bethesda Christian (1A): In the central Indiana area, the best team in 1A is Bethesda Christian. The Patriots, who are now 12-2, have won their last 8 of 9 games and have beaten teams such as Purdue Poly, Danville, Indianapolis Ritter, Tipton, and a bunch of others. Looking at the roster, they just have a bunch of experienced guys that know what it takes to have success at a high level. They have an easy week as they travel to a struggling Indianapolis Shortridge team on Saturday.

3 Matchups

Cathedral (4A) vs Crispus Attucks (4A) – Jan. 23rd, 7:30 pm: This week starts off with a bang as the Indianapolis City Tournament Championship takes place tonight with [player_tooltip player_id='868219' first='Xavier' last='Booker'] and Cathedral taking on [player_tooltip player_id='1297019' first='Dezmon' last='Briscoe'] and Cripus Attucks. On paper, Cathedral looks like the better team with not only Booker but [player_tooltip player_id='868251' first='Jake' last='Davis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='868252' first='Jaron' last='Tibbs'] being tough to contain as well. However, Attucks does have some studs as well with [player_tooltip player_id='1275771' first='Ron' last='Rutland III'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1275781' first='Demetrius' last='Jenkins']. This game should be closer than many expect, but I still think Cathedral gets it done.

Lawrence North (4A) at New Palestine (4A) – Jan. 25th, 7:30 pm: How about New Palestine? They are one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the state and have beaten teams such as Southport, Greenfield-Central, Gary 21st, and others. However, they arguably play their toughest team yet as Lawrence North comes into town. The Wildcats arguably have the best backcourt in the state and Kobi Bowels and [player_tooltip player_id='1296979' first='Azavier' last='Robinson'] so the Dragons will have a tough challenge on their end. New Pal has some studs as well and their anchor, [player_tooltip player_id='1295323' first='Ian' last='Stephens'], has been a tough post player to stop. I think New Pal gets their first loss of the season as the backcourt of Bowels and Robinson will be too much for them.

Wapahani (2A) at Delta (3A) – Jan 27th, 7:30: Ever since losing their first game, Wapahani has been on a role winning 13 in a row and slowly becoming a state finalist contender at the 2A level. However, they travel to Delta this weekend and that could be viewed as a trap game. Delta, 10-5, is not a powerhouse of a team but have a great trio of 2024s which includes [player_tooltip player_id='1295334' first='Jackson' last='Wors'], [player_tooltip player_id='1295310' first='D'Amare' last='Hood'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1275827' first='Jayden' last='Furney'] that can be a problem. The Raiders can also make a case as having the best backcourt in the state with [player_tooltip player_id='1158181' first='Isaac' last='Andrews'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1150871' first='Aidan' last='Franks']. I like Delta to get somewhat of the upset win here.
