Mid-Season Update: Club Ohio
Club Ohio out of Cincinnati has been off to a great start this season. They finished runner up in the gold bracket at the Circle City Shootout and a bronze bracket championship at the Adidas Spring Classic. They also won the silver bracket at Dayton Metro’s local tournament. Overall Club Ohio is 11-3 which Coach Rodrick Pierce is pleased with so far. A few tournaments they still have later this season include the Nike Super 16, Adidas Invitational, and Ohio High School State tournament among others.
Coach Pierce tells me several of his players have seen their stock rise since the start of the grassroots season. Some of their top performers have been Omari Peek, Garrison Bailey, Kameron Gibson, and Dominic Pierce. Pierce, Peek, and Gibson all have D1 and D2 college interest. Pierce tells me Bailey and Jalen Peck should see interest improve. Leonard Taylor is another big time player on their roster.
What makes Club Ohio unique is the focus on family. Many of their players have played together since a young age. Others are biological family members and cousins. Coach Pierce worded it perfectly by telling me “Everyone knows everyone which creates a family environment and family looks out for family”. Exposure is the end goal for Club Ohio, as they would like everyone on their roster to be playing basketball at the collegiate level. With the talent they have, this goal is definitely reachable.
I asked Coach Pierce to give some mid-season awards based on performances up to this point. He awarded the following players:
Best Defensive Player: Myron Williams/ Kameron Gibson
Best Shooter: Kameron Gibson/ Noah Theodore
Best Athlete: Omari Peek
Memorable Moment: Omari Peek two hand ally oop dunk from Jalen Peck. This was huge it set the tone for our season.
Keep an eye on this talented team as they continue to dominant the grassroots circuit in Cincinnati.
