Lutheran West is one of the top teams in the state and their interior presence of the Meyer twins is a big reason why. Lutheran West has a nice blend of seniors and returners and Meyer has taken a leap this year with his perimeter shooting ability and production. With more marquee regular season games and a potential deep playoff run again this season, Meyer and the Longhorns should continue to remain in the headlines as we progress through the season.

I thought both of the Meyer twins stood out for Lutheran West in a dominant performance. Josh had a pump fake drive lefty finish at the rim and then made an impressive skip pass to the corner. Lutheran West does a great job sharing the basketball and the skill level of their forwards is a big reason why. Combine these skills with his athleticism that flashed when he took two dribbles from the 3-point line before slamming it home. Also knocking down a time and space 3, Meyer had a complete performance.

Meyer’s twin Matthew made his debut during the ranking prior but after a run to the state championship game, Joshua proved that he was worthy of being added as well. During the Cleveland Play by Play event, Meyer really stood out with his ability to pass the ball from the middle of the court and from the high post. Meyer was also finishing at the rim with confidence and played with a lot of aggressiveness. Expect Lutheran West to once again be one of the top teams in Division II and look to win that one final game next season with Meyer and company having one more year of experience.

This was my third time watching Lutheran West and Joshua’s twin brother Matthew has stood out in the first two games but this time it was Joshua making plays. Meyer made smart passes in the high post, was aggressive going after loose balls and finished around the rim. Lutheran West is playing with mostly 2024 and 2025 prospects and winning now, but their best basketball could come next season with all the young talent they have on their roster.
