The Cleveland Play by Play Classic featured seven games at John Carroll University, in this article we’ll take a look at some new names who stood out and made key plays for their team.
Michael Hatcher

Hatcher caught FIRE in the second half for Brush, knocking down some huge 3-pointers to swing a sizeable deficit into a lead for the Arcs. It’s been something he’s been doing all season, knocking down big shots from the outside and making plays when his team needs him.
Brecksville took their first loss of the season but I was impressed with the impact Ganley had for a sophomore guard. Knocking down an open 3-pointer and grabbing an offensive rebound and put-back, Ganley proved he was ready to contribute with the bright lights on. Brecksville does a great job getting the ball into their best players hands and letting him make the game easier for the rest of the team and Ganley is one of the guys who benefits from the presence that Luke Skaljac Luke Skaljac 6’2″ | PG Brecksville-Broadview Hts | 2024 State #162 Nation OH has on the court.
Garfield Heights has overachieved expectations so far this season and it’s mostly because their defense has been excellent this season. Their core group of rotation players are all plus defenders and Benn is just another guard who loves to get after it on that end. Offensively, Benn had his best outside shooting game I’ve ever seen from him, knocking down shots off the catch with confidence. This Bulldogs team is deep and talented and each game it could be somebody different making plays, on Sunday it was Benn making the most of his opportunity.
This was my third time watching Lutheran West and Joshua’s twin brother Matthew has stood out in the first two games but this time it was Joshua making plays. Meyer made smart passes in the high post, was aggressive going after loose balls and finished around the rim. Lutheran West is playing with mostly 2024 and 2025 prospects and winning now, but their best basketball could come next season with all the young talent they have on their roster.
