Meet The Player: Emmanuel Sepulveda
Q: Being the youngest player on the CFCA varsity squad how do you approach the game knowing that the other players are older, and how does it feel? Because we know it’s not often that an 8th grader is on varsity.
Emmanuel: It feels pretty good, I know I’m one of the smallest players on the court so I know I have to put in the most work to help my team out.
Q: What are some things you feel like you bring to your team?
Emmanuel: Leadership, I communicate with my teammate pretty well, even though I’m young I’m the floor general so I know I have to be able to communicate well.
Q: We saw some impressive passing, is that something you focus in on to try and bring to the table?
Emmanuel: Yes, I like making smart plays and getting the ball to open players.
Who is a player that you like to watch and why?
Emmanuel: James Harden, I like the way he plays, he plays the game really smoothly, I like playing like him, it’s hard to do but I try to.
Q: What are some things you do on game day to prepare yourself mentally?
Emmanuel: I listen to music, stretch, drink lots of water, have some oatmeal in the morning and just be ready to work when I come in the gym.
Q: Do you feel like playing varsity has helped you with your development?
Emmanuel: Yes, it’s helping to mature earlier, so once I get to 10th grade and 11th grade then I already know how things go.
Q: You guys have some good guards on the varsity squad at CFCA how is that matchup in practice?
Emmanuel: Playing against guys like Isaiah Tatum is tough, we go at each other and he doesn’t treat me like an 8th grader he treats me like a man. It helps me to get better because we go at it just about every day.
Q: Favorite NBA Team & Player?
Emmanuel: James Harden, Houston Rockets
Q: So your MVP vote is going to James Harden?
Emmanuel: Yes sir
Q: What’s the transition into CFCA been like for you?
Emmanuel: Its harder than public school, I have to work harder, study harder in class, just stay focused on what I have to do.
Q: How’s playing for coach Dwight Miller?
Emmanuel: He pushes me to get better, he yells at me all the time and I know it’s because he just wants me to get better and to be the best player I can be.
