Prospect Spotlight: Cole Northrop (2019)
One of Washington’s best 2019 prospects, 6-foot-3 shooting guard Cole Northrop has a busy spring and summer ahead.
The Richland sophomore is coming off the heels of a fantastic high school season, and has now embarked on his offseason with 17U Eastern Washington Elite.
He defined what it is he brings to the floor with whichever team he plays for.
“When I’m out there on the floor I see myself as scorer who can see the court really well. Usually my goal is to just play as hard as a I can,” said Northrop, who averaged 19 points per game this past winter for the Bombers.
“I went through kind of a shooting slump midway through the season, but I got out of that by the time we got to state. We were one game away from the state championship, but we fell just short of that.”
Now, with Eastern Washington Elite, he says his goals are to improve his athleticism, and pick up some recruitment.
“Coming into this offseason I’m focusing on getting faster, stronger and jumping higher,” said Northrop. “My goals are to just showcase myself as much as I can.”
He’s got one Division I school showing considerable interest right now, and his ultimate goal is to play at that level.
“University of Idaho has contacted me, and I went up and scrimmaged with them during Spring Break, so that’s gotten started,” said Northrop.
“And I’ve gotten some other mail from different colleges, like team and camp invites from Eastern Washington and Saint Mary’s, but nothing too serious.”
He added: “I’m focused on getting recruited, one of my main goals is to go D1. So I’m thinking about that a lot.”
