Prospect Spotlight: Jalen Love (2019)
In his first season with Bellevue, 6-foot point guard Jalen Love made a major impact, and now heads into his 16U spring with a full head of steam.
Love strikes a nice balance between scoring and distributing, making him a dual-threat lead guard that will be one of Washington’s best for the next two seasons.
“Impact and skill-wise I feel like I’m good at getting other guys open, but at the same time I can find my own shot and stuff like that,” said Love, who mentioned what he’ll be working to improve this season.
“This offseason I’ve been really working on my 15-footer and coming off of ball screens and being able to shoot the outside shot more consistently.”
After playing at Eastside Catholic his freshman season, Love transferred into Bellevue to play this past winter. He averaged 12 points and 3.5 assists per game as a sophomore with the Wolverines.
“My first year over there was good, we made it the The Dome. I just played more of a consistent guard role, and a lot of it was me trying to be an extension of the coach and trying to get everyone open,” said Love.”
Now, he’s playing his 16U season with FOH Seattle, and is is eager to show college coaches that he can compete with some of the best 2019’s in the Northwest.
“This season I’m just really trying to make it so I can extend myself and my play, and really show college coaches what they want to see. And just be comfortable and play against some of the top talent and show I can compete.”
“As of right now I haven’t been really talking to and college coaches. This year I’m expecting to hear a little bit more from colleges and when we’re out of town I think I’ll be talking with some college coaches. It’s one of those things that really hoping happens.”
