Mikey is one of the top pure shooters in his class and that was very evident on Sunday. He is an ultra-confident player who will let it fly from deep when given any open space. Teammate guards were looking to kick out to him often, as he shot well on looks off the catch, getting shots off quickly. McKenzie was also successful on pull-up jumpers off the dribble.

There is no spot on the floor that is out of McKenzie’s range. The moment he crosses half-court, he becomes a scoring threat. Moving without the basketball, in addition to his ability to create his own shot, gives him an advantage as a scorer. In the Saturday game I was watching, the 6’1″ combo guard changed the game when he caught fire from distance in the first half. This allowed his team to have more opportunities to attack the paint and create open looks as the defense was required to pay extra attention to McKenzie.

Mikey put on a pair of outstanding scoring performances in the action I saw. The junior guard is a sniper from the perimeter and was letting it fly whenever he got the chance. He had stretches in both games where he was connecting on “heat checks”. He was a major threat off of both the catch and off the dribble, always requiring a hand in his face. He could also get downhill and finish with touch or find a teammate for a better look.

Michael was a big reason why Powerhouse was leading Martin Brothers at halftime on Friday night. The 6’1 guard out of Eagan is a sharpshooter from three, who can catch fire at any given moment. That included a few threes late in the second half, that helped take his team from down 12 early, to leading 30-29 at the break. He showed no shortage of confidence to catch and shoot from well beyond the arc, and when he’s on, he’s someone who can really spread the floor for his team as his range extends to way past the high school three point line. Scored a team high 15 points with five 3’s on the night.
