may currently occupy a backup role, but he maximizes every opportunity he gets on the court. A throwback player, Delaney thrives in the paint, working tirelessly under the rim and serving as a disruptive force for his team. He’s a shot blocker who alters attempts at the rim and provides valuable rebounding for a squad full of shooters. Beyond his defensive contributions, Delaney is a rim-running wing who often plays center and prefers to finish with powerful dunks. The “dunker’s spot” is where he excels, and his unique skill set will be crucial for Ruston as they aim for another Top 28 appearance.

Mason Delaney put on a show and is a player that I considered for first team. If his team would have made it a little farther, he would have probably made it on there. He put on a rebounding clinic, grabbing a rebound every time that it came off of the rim. On multiple occasions, he turned offensive rebounds into putbacks. He was a scoring machine on the interior, utilizing great size to shoot over the smaller defenders. He also showed the ability to stretch the floor, knocking down a three pointer. On defense, he had good hands to knock the ball away from the defender on a few different occasions. He had a knack to step over and help at the right time, coming away with one block after another. I recorded four blocks in the game for him. There was one sequence that he had help defense that lead to a block, him grabbing the rebound, and then him scoring in transition. It was a great performance for him, as he exerted his will on both ends of the court.

put on a rebounding clinic, utilizing great size, being listed at 6’6. It was one of the best rebounding games I saw at the whole event, grabbing one board after another. He had several offensive rebounds, at least four, with three of them leading to a putback. On the defensive end, he did a good job of rebounding and looking to throw the outlet. He dominated on the defensive end, having four blocks at halftime. On one play, he blocked the shot, grabbed the rebound, and pushed the pace. This resulted in him scoring in transition. That instance and the putbacks were not the only times that he scored, as he scored inside on another occasion and hit a three at a different time. On defense, he showed quick hands to knock the ball out when the offensive player was driving on a drive. It was a great game for him.

Mason played an effective role as a post player for his squad on Saturday against a guard-central Point Five Academy. Delaney showed he can hurt a defense with his back to the basket or facing up for a jumper as a dual threat player. He had several opportunities where he attacked the basket with great force and was met with either a foul or severe contact and still finished the bucket. Delaney finished shooting from the floor on 7/9 under the basket and also made a couple free throws in the process for 15 points. The main point to take away from Mason’s game is that he can play a very unselfish big man style of basketball or if he is isolated in the post, the defense better man up. You don’t see many dual threat players like this too often!
