About David
Expert Analysis
Greg Stein | Prep Hoops Scout
David played with great physicality early on Saturday morning in Grind Prep’s tough loss to Premier Prep Vols White (AZ), 72-58. Wilson made a significant impact in the paint on both ends as a rebounder and showed nice finishing touch as well.

Over the last 6 months Wilson has gone from an interesting but mysterious recruit to a bouncy, high upside wing-forward prospect. He excelled as a rim runner, explosive finisher, rebound and shot eraser with one of the better regional 17U teams, the Rogue ‘ last=”]. And is now putting in work to expand his overall game with Grind Prep. He may not have the full resume of other prospects on this list, but the combination of motor and natural gifts does give him top 5 upside in this class, which is probably a longwinded way to say I think he has D1 upside in his range of outcomes.

Wilson looks like he plays on a trampoline. He doesn’t need a runway to explode, and frequently showed that as he made the paint a “no fly zone” for the opposition. The openness of the camp setting allowed him to often pin shots off the glass, and clean the boards on both ends of the court. Offensively, his game remain raw. He’s clearly working on his perimeter shooter but right now he’s at his best as an aggressive rim runner. And has the potential to a monster in pick and roll situations thanks to his verticality.
The 6 foot 6 bouncy forward has often caught the eye at AAU tournaments the last two years, but has lacked a high school resume. That will be changing as he’ll be playing with new OKC program, Grind Prep. Which will be an opportunity for Wilson to showcase his natural gifts as a game changing defensive performer, while attempting to develop and unlock his offensive skillset.

Athletic and high motor, Wilson was a game changer on both ends of the floor today. He plays above the rim, from finishing with authority, to securing rebounds (where he’s often looking for outlets) and of course blocking shots. More than just flash, when matched up with a taller, stronger player, Wilson battled to get position and deny entry passes. This led to at least one deflection and even had the quickness and explosiveness to make a recovery block one time when he was beat. A promising long term sign was the confidence he showed when draining a catch and shoot three.

In early spring of 2022, Wilson caught the eye in the 16U division as a raw but promising athletic forward. Now he’s established as one of the highest upside prospects in this class. The high flying Rogue forward is one of the best athletes in 2024, and it’s more than just for show with transition dunks. He backs it up with a high energy playing style that often has him exploding for offensive rebounds and defending the paint. Explosive leaping ability, a big wingspan and a high motor is often very enticing to college coaches.

Wilson continues to make his case as a top 5 pure athlete in the class. On Friday night he put a shot-blocker on a poster, or I suppose a “head tap” as the kids call it now. He continued to play above the rim for the rest of the game, catching lobs and converting put-backs with authorities. He’s a high motor player that plays above the rim. Those traits gives him D1 upside.

The athletic and active big man has flashed huge upside already this spring. The 2024 class in Oklahoma is well known for it’s depth of players in the 6 foot 7 range that are athletic and play above the rim, Wilson is another one of those prospects. When his motor is running, he has the ability to change the game on both ends of the court.

felt like the most impactful player on the floor for

‘ last=”] throughout the weekend. Wilson can jump out of the gym and that athleticism and size was felt on both ends of the floor. Wilson was a rim protector and was cleaning up the glass on the defensive end of the floor. Then he would turn around and bring the rim down on offense. And Wilson’s motor was another thing that really impressed and when you combine all of those attributes, you have a player that would not only make “flashy” plays but you had a guy that was going to do whatever he could to help his team win. Wilson was incredibly impressive on both days this weekend and we’re looking forward to seeing more of him moving forward this offseason.
