Iowa All-Freshman Team
First Team
Player of the Year: Zack Lasek, 6’7 PF (Highland, Riverside)
15.3 PPG (61 FG%), 1.7 BPG, 7.1 RPG
We saw him dominate fellow incoming freshman at our Top 250 Expo last fall, so we’re not surprised he had a great first season of high school hoops. But the degree to which he succeeded this winter actually exceeded our lofty expectations. This Martin Brothers product is not just one of the best freshman in the state, but one of Iowa’s best players, period.
Bowen Born, 5’9 G (Norwalk) — 13.0 PPG, 2.7 APG, 1.2 SPG
An savvy combo guard with sharpshooting ability, Born is undoubtedly a star in the making for thew Warriors. He’s the son of former Iowa State guard Michael Born, and it’s clear when watching Bowen play that he’s got some innate basketball ability and an off-the-charts hoops IQ.
Xavier Foster, 6’9 F (Oskaloosa) — 7.5 PPG (52 FG%), 3.6 BPG, 5.8 RPG
Little kids were coming up and getting his autograph at Wells Fargo Arena during the state tournament earlier this month, so safe to say the future high-major Division I player is already a star. A smooth combo-forward with immense length and a penchant for swatting anything that comes his way, Foster could be scary good very soon.
Cameron Soenksen, 6′ G (Camanche) — 13.9 PPG, 2.3 SPG, 3.9 RPG
An athletic and particularly bouncy combo guard, Soenkesn was at times dazzling during the state tournament earlier this month. He skies for rebounds, and plays with a malleable athleticism that makes even the toughest defenders vulnerable. He’ll play with the Iowa Barnstormers this spring and summer, where he could continue to see his stock rise.
Calvin Harris, 6′ G (Western Dubuque) — 13.1 PPG, 4.5 RPG
He was the best freshman scorer in 4A by a long shot, and rebounded well from the guard spot. Harris is a standout on the diamond too, and could be considered a “baseball guy,” but he will run with the Iowa Barnstormers 15U this spring and summer when he’s available. It will be interesting to see how he stacks up against the nation’s best 2020 talent.
Second Team
Keshawn Christian, 6’1 G/F (Iowa City High)
8.3 PPG, 1.0 SPG, 1.1 BPG, 5.7 RPG

Brennan Sefrit, (Bedford)
19.2 PPG, 60 3s (40 3FG%), 3.8 APG, 1.8 SPG, 3.8 RPG
Bryce Achenbach (Woodward-Granger)
9.5 PPG (51 FG%), 6.1 APG, 3.6 SPG, 3.5 RPG
Easton Darling (Winterset)
13.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG
Third Team

6.4 PPG, 3.3 APG
