Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Strengths: Quick/Strong Hands, Versatility, Strong Finisher
Breakdown: Johnson fills a ton of different roles for Curtis depending on the available matchups. His defensive acumen helps him take on guards and post players, while racking up stocks with quick hands. Super athletic and 6’5, he’s a big rebounder for Curtis as well, and though he’s not relied on to score much one-on-one, has the ability to make tough shots.
Outlook: Overall, he is a plus defender who works hard and plays aggressive. He has experience handling the ball and can make plays with the pass from different areas of the court, often taking smaller defenders to the post where he actually has some good finesse moves to match his strength. Johnson has stat-sheet-stuffer potential with a varying skillset.
Offers: None
Interest: University of Dallas, Whitman College, Cochise College

Previous Rank: 45rnJohnson has really flourished at Curtis this season and been able to display all his talents for one of the best teams in the state. At Central Kitsap last season, he was a big-time scorer with an elite faceup game, hitting tough shots from the midrange as well as taking defenders off the bounce and making his way to the rim. He still has that in his bag for Curtis but he’s also showing a more well-rounded game and adding value to the team through defense and playmaking. The defense has probably been the most impressive aspect of his senior season. He’s a threat to block shots with his athleticism, can keep up with smaller guards but also has the strength to defend in the post. He has been a really strong addition to the defending 4A champs and brings big effort each time he steps between the lines.

A big, physical guard, Johnson provides even more balance to the Curtis Viks. He’s an excellent finisher with elite athleticism who can make plays from the wings and also take smaller players into the post where he has good post moves and a nice turnaround jumper. He adds another ball-handler and could be a huge asset defensively as one of the bigger players on the team, and definitely one of the strongest. Johnson already plays with a number of the Vikings in AAU and his transition should be smooth as they look to hit the ground running on December 2 at Emerald Ridge High School.

. After a breakout junior year with Central Kitsap (22 ppg, 8 rpg, 5 apg), the Swiss Army Knife had a great all-around summer playing with a Team Stuck roster full of Division-1 level teammates. It seemed like a necessary experience after he transferred to Curtis, where he’ll be playing alongside budding star

(2023). He’ll most likely be slotted into the 3-spot as the Viks look to capture back-to-back 4A state titles, where he has the size to compete on both ends and be the ultimate glue guy for his squad.
