The Hustle Region Circuit consists of AAU Programs from California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, and New Mexico. The circuit features 10 stops including the Hustle Region Final in Irvine July 15th – 17th. Stop 3 is a big one, as the circuit pulls up in Kansas City for the NCAA Certified Prephoops Live Event. The event featured several players with the ability to impact the game on the defensive end. In this article, we take a look at the top defenders from the event.
Anthony Alvez Anthony Alvez 5'11" | SF Capital | 2022 NM 6’0 CG D1 New Mexico 2022 (featured image) – Alvarez’s defense jumped out at me from the start. It begins with his effort, the guard sacrificed his body, diving on the floor and taking charges. After that, it’s his strength and athleticism. He has a good upper frame and was able to absorb contact from offensive players. Finally, his quick hands allowed him to come away with several on-ball steals throughout the weekend.
Decedric Webb 6’6 PF OWE 2023 – Really liked Webb’s activity. He changed ends fast, and that allowed him to get back and protect the lane. He did that at a high level, blocking and altering several shots in the game I watched.
Jeremiah Fears Jeremiah Fears 6'1" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2025 State #31 Nation AZ 6’0 PG Hoops 4 Health 2025 – Fears was playing up, but you couldn’t tell by his defense. He was a terror who played with great timing. Several times, the guard picked opponents clean. He has good lateral quickness, but it was the speed of his hands to go along with his timing that made him one of the top defenders I saw.
Jackson Hansen 5’10 PG B&B Academy 2024 – B&B was one of my favorite teams to watch this weekend. They had some guys that could fill it up on the offensive end, and they had some guys like Hansen who did it on the defensive side. He hustled hard, defending any and everyone, and he also played with good instincts jumping passing lanes effectively.
Diego Sharp Diego Sharp 6'1" | SG ABC Prep | 2022 State NM 6’2 SG D1 New Mexico 2022 – Sharp was really sharp this weekend. He’s always been a good athlete, but he translated it to the defensive end this weekend. He was terrific playing on the ball and was one of the top 3 and D guys at the event. Sharp was a nightmare at the head of D1’s press, getting a ton of steals and quickly turning them into offense.
Cooper Oathout 6’2 CG KC Spurs 2025 – Oathout was one of the most complete 2025 prospects I saw this weekend. He had a ton of skills, but his defense was difficult to ignore. By my count he had 4 passing lane steals in the game I watched. He has remarkable instincts, seemingly anticipating plays before they happen.
