Last season a freshman, Carter was instrumental to the success of the state-qualifying Rams squad, averaging 9.4 points and a team-best 4.8 rebounds per game.
This season he’s upped his scoring average to 18.3 per game and his rebounding to 7.2 per, both team bests.
“I think I’ve gotten in the weight room a lot and I’ve gained a lot of strength. I’m a lot stronger in the post than I was last season or during the summer,” said Carter. “I’ve been working a lot on my footwork, and I feel like I can get around people and through people a lot easier than I did last year.”
Also impressive, Carter is shooting 63 percent from the floor and 43 percent from deep.
“I work on shooting all the time, and I really like the top of the key 3,” he said. “Last year I was more of a role-player and this year I do have more of a green light to shoot.”
He added: “This year I’m a captain on the team and my guys look to me for leadership. I feel like this year our team chemistry is a lot higher and that’s why we’re doing so well.”
With little recruitment so far, Carter — Iowa’s 23rd-ranked 2019 — is in-line for a big spring and summer, and he’ll again play with one of the nation’s best squads, Iowa Barnstormers 16U.
“I think this upcoming summer will be really fun, and we’re going to have a really nice team. We have signed with adidas, so that will be better. Playing the best team’s in the nation will not only be good for our team, but it will be better for all of us individually,” said Carter.
“I haven’t really heard much from colleges, my coach told me the coach from South Dakota State called and was asking some questions about me. But that’s really all I’ve heard so far. I’m hoping to hear some more from coaches soon.”
