Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
Koch has firmly established himself as one of the best catch-and-shoot weapons in the state’s 2024 class. He moves extremely well without the ball in his hands, has a quick release off the catch with extended range, and he has his feet squared and ready to fire when he catches a pass. He’s a good enough ball-handler and passer to play the point, but he’s at his best when he’s operating without the ball in his hands, using off-ball screens to get additional space, and burning teams from the arc. He has quick hands and moves his feet well on the defensive end of the floor as well. He finished with 12 points on 4-7 3P shooting and 3 steals in West’s loss to Kennedy.

Koch has impressed me the two times I’ve watched him this season. While he’s still a marksman from the outside, he’s improved his all-around game. He gets to the basket more regularly when defenders attack him on the perimeter. His handles have taken a step forward. Koch showed in this game that he can defend on the ball against quick guards as well. He led all scorers with 25 points Friday

Koch is an efficient two-way guard with a good understanding of the game and an ability to succeed no matter the game’s pace. He shows a picture-perfect jump shot with a quick release. He has handles, moves well without the ball and finds open teammates. He’s a guard that can help plenty of programs at the next level. He connected on 10 of 14 field-goal attempts in this game, including splashing in 5 of 7 trey tries.

A 6-0 guard who can really shoot it, Koch buried 40.5% of his 3-point attempts last season, playing more off the ball than he did as a sophomore, when he showed that he can play the point. His ability to either play off the ball as a deadly catch-and-shoot weapon or play with the ball as a ball-handler and facilitator will make him a solid pickup for whichever small school ends up getting him.

Koch strokes it well from deep with picture-perfect form and a quick release. He moves well without the ball and handles the it well, allowing him to shake loose from defenders and get off his shot. He does a nice job defending on the ball and rebounds well for a guard.
