We got to speak with this young man following his 32 point game performance against Cape Fear Academy in the Semi-Finals, he has stepped up big time for his squad over the past few weeks and is a name to people should definitely remember.
Q: You got just got a good win against the only team that you all have lost to in conference play? Did that play a factor in how you guys approached the game?
Wright: We wanted to come out for revenge because we played really bad and they played one of their best games, so we just had to come out with a win and do it for J (Jon Gauer) because he’s out with an injury.
Q: You guys have Jon Gauer out, and now Coach Strong is out for health reasons, and now Coach Bishop leading the way. Is it an adjustment for you guys or is it the same old, same old?
Wright: It is an adjustment but our dad is still the assistant coach and he’s been coaching everybody on the team since the summer so we just told ourselves that instead of changing everything we will just add to what we have already been doing.
Q: This week Coach had called me to let me know that you had received Conference Player Of The Year, was that something that was one of your goals this year or did it just kind’ve happen?
Wright: At first I didn’t know that I had got it, just rumors but when It was official it was pretty cool and I thank God for it , it wasn’t a goal but I appreciate it and its good accomplishment. It’s the first time I ever had something like that, so it feels good.
Q: So now you guys have to wait it out to see who you guys play next but regardless you’re going to be at home for a conference championship game which I know is a goal for you all, besides that what’s another goal you guys have?
Wright: We want to get deep in the State tournament, right now I think we are like #4 in the state so we want to make a run at it we think we can do it, and as long as we keep playing together we feel like we can get the championship.
Q: Over time I’ve watched you quite a bit and your game has become more complete going from a scoring PG to now a type of player that can score and facilitate, so what do you feel like you bring to the table for your team?
Wright: I feel like I have to bring facilitation and scoring as well because you know our main scorer is out, so now I have to take on a bigger role and I have to accept that role in order for my team to win I have to do stuff like that.
