Wakefield High School hosted the Dexter Cooley Showcase, showcasing some talented prospects from Raleigh and surrounding areas. Take a look at Part I of the standouts.

[player_tooltip player_id="1350160" first="Jaevian" last="Alston"] | 6’6 Forward | Wake Forest | 2024

Alston is a budding name to know over at Wake Forest High with a ton of potential. He did well to pace the Wake Forest scoring attack with his athleticism and ability to finish in traffic with 25 points in their 84-81 overtime victory over Hoggard. As he continues to grow and develop as an all-around prospect, he’s a name to track in NC’s 2024 class for the next few seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id="1086709" first="Nigel" last="Lucas"] | 6’0 Guard | Wake Forest | 2023

Lucas is a two-way combo guard that shined for the Cougars in their overtime victory. He took on the task of guarding Hoggard’s best player in [player_tooltip player_id="1350181" first="Hoku" last="Fisher"] and he didn’t back down, or foul out, from the challenge, showing off his growth as a defender and scorer on the floor. He’s a name to know over at Wake Forest High with combo guard skills and an unselfish mentality with winning on the agenda.

[player_tooltip player_id="1350176" first="RJ" last="Bridges"] | 6’4 Guard | Jordan | 2023

Bridges continues to impress and put his name on the PrepHoops radar over at Jordan High. He put up a big 19 points in their big victory on the road over Wakefield while showing off his ability to handle the ball, rebound and create chaos on the defensive end. He can knock down the 3-ball but operates well as an attacker off the bounce. He’s a name in the 2023 class that’s slowly climbing up the radar.

[player_tooltip player_id="1143945" first="Walker" last="Woodall"] | 6’5 Shooting Guard/Wing | Jordan | 2023

Woodall is another name that’s slowly climbing up the radar at Jordan High. He hit a number of big shots down the stretch for the Falcons and showed off his ability to be more than a shooter on the wing as a rebounder and distributor on the wing. He’s another of a few names to track in the 2023 class at Jordan with good size and potential.

[player_tooltip player_id="1144259" first="Fred" last="Whitaker"] | 5’10 Point Guard | Northwood | 2024

Whitaker was an impressive face in the Northwood backcourt in their victory over Millbrook. He produced 15 points and made a number of plays on defense and in the playmaking department to keep things on the up and up for a young and talented Northwood squad. He continues to show his development as a true point guard in the 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1115509" first="Drake" last="Powell"] | 6’6 Wing/Forward | Northwood | 2024

Powell is a name that continues to develop at Northwood High. He finished with 10 points and was pivotal on the defensive and rebounding front as the Chargers got a strong 3-point victory over a tough Millbrook squad. He’s a versatile prospect that does more than just score the ball to make an impact on the floor. He’s another young prospect to track in NC’s 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1350181" first="Hoku" last="Fisher"] | 6’3 Guard | Hoggard | 2022

Fisher was a top scorer of the day, finishing with 42 points (seven made 3-pointers) to pace the Hoggard offensive attack. He did a lot of scoring while moving without the ball to find openings and scored in a variety of ways. He’s an impressive unsigned senior who certainly got his name on the radar after his performance in the Dexter Cooley Showcase. With Averett, Wingate and NC Wesleyan in attendance, Fisher is a prospect with plenty of DII interest that should certainly land on his feet after his performance.

[player_tooltip player_id="1180892" first="Sir" last="Mohammed"] | 6’4 Guard | Myers Park | 2024

Mohammed showed his growth while running the show at the lead guard position. He lead by example and it showed in the stat sheet as he finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and two steals in the victory. He’s a prospect that does a little bit of everything already despite his youth and does a tremendous job of making his presence felt on defense as well. Buy stock now.

[player_tooltip player_id="997734" first="Elijah" last="Strong"] | 6’8 Forward | Myers Park | 2023

Strong was impressive as he adjusts to full-time minutes in the varsity rotation with Myers Park. He paced their frontcourt attack with 17 points and 12 rebounds to show off his size and mobility in the paint in their victory over Panther Creek. This is a group that, if they peak at the right time, should be very good come playoff time.
