Wednesday December 8th-Saturday December 11th I attended the Hoophall West at Chaparral HS in Scottsdale, AZ.

There were three to four games a day with many Arizona teams playing in the prestigious West Coast event.

We look at some of the top performers.

Here were the top PF/C Performers:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="826994" first="Adrame" last="Diongue"] AZ Compass Prep (Pictured)

An elite rim runner and shot blocker. He is a super quick leaper to explode up and dunk the ball. His ability to defend in space and then in the post is best in the state. He has schools lining up to take his services from the PAC-12 to the Big-12 and many others.

[player_tooltip player_id="1284819" first="Shawn" last="Phillips Jr"] Dream City Christian

Size and length is what clearly stands out for big Phillips. He uses it to rebound and block shots at a good clip, which affects each game. He is a little methodical with his post moves but he gets the job done and is efficient. His strength is his interior defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="701227" first="Sadraque" last="Nganga"] AZ Compass Prep

It has been a long road for Sada, but he is slowly coming back to form. The forward can face-up to the 3pt line and take a rebound off the glass and go coast to coast. He can hit the 3pt shot off the catch and pull-up.

[player_tooltip player_id="827020" first="Trey" last="Phillips"] Brophy Prep

Phillips had Incredible energy off the bench. He made it very difficult for ’Bear’ to get his usual easy points. He has a live body and plays above the rim. He defends inside and out and he was a big reason they defeated St. Mary’s.

[player_tooltip player_id="826995" first="Jeremiah" last="Cherry"] St. Mary’s

The big post player uses his body to his advantage. He scores it inside with hook shots and layups and gets to the FT line. He made some clutch ones down the stretch despite their loss showing his nice shooting touch.

[player_tooltip player_id="827037" first="Michael" last="Saba"] Chaparral

A scoring forward can face up to the 3pt line and has become more athletic in the last year. His post footwork is polished and he is a long rebounder who can corral the board with two hands in and out of his area. He will block shots and stand tall in the post. He is a good passer out of the high post and he moves his feet decently plus he can rip through and score it or get fouled.

[player_tooltip player_id="706706" first="JP" last="Musselmann"] Brophy Prep

A highly skilled scorer and shooter. He hits the mid-range shot comfortably and will score it in the paint with jump hook shots. He rebounds in and out of his area and can hold his ground in the post.

[player_tooltip player_id="1030972" first="Nick" last="Tolson"] Chaparral

A face-up forward has a pretty looking stroke with nice ball rotation. He gets his shot off in a blink of an eye and he rebounds in traffic. He defended well om the perimeter and inside. Tolson just came back after missing a year with an injury and looked good.

2025

[player_tooltip player_id="1263804" first="Jaylon" last="Johnson"] Mountain Pointe

A big and thicker bodied true post player has good hands to catch passes. He has a real physical presence and long arms to bang inside. He is currently playing through a knee injury and will have surgery after the HS season. He will have some big moments this season, but most likely breakout next year.
