A dynamic stat-sheet stuffing lead guard, Griffin does an excellent job playing under control and letting the game come to him. He impacts the game on both ends of the floor with his size, length, and IQ.
First Team
2022 Maddox Griffin Maddox Griffin 6'1" | PG Wapello | 2022 State IA , Wapello: 17.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 4.2 steals, 56.4 FG%
One of my personal favorites, Griffin does an outstanding job playing with pace and allowing the game to come to him. He doesn’t force anything, as you can see by his remarkable efficiency from the field, and he has excellent court vision.
2024 Cam Buffington Cam Buffington 6'2" | PF Winfield-Mt. Union | 2024 State IA , Winfield-Mt. Union: 17.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.4 steals
Also a standout on the gridiron, Buffington has already committed to play football at Iowa, pulling the trigger after his freshman year. He’s a great athlete with size and physicality that he uses to dominate on the hardwood as well.
2024 Abram Edwards Abram Edwards 6'5" | PF Winfield-Mt. Union | 2024 State IA , Winfield-Mt. Union: 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.9 blocks
A skilled 6-5/6-6 combo forward, Edwards is the son of former Iowa State player Klay Edwards, and he has picked up a lot of skills from his dad. He can facilitate and score, and he’s a great rim protector as well.
2023 Cole Lipper, Mediapolis: 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 54.7 FG%
An imposing presence in the paint, Lipper has a big, physical frame that he uses to control the paint and dominate on the glass. His 168 rebounds last season trailed only Buffington, Edwards, and Lone Tree’s Tyler Bell.
2022 Chase Schultz, Highland: 11.2 points, 5.8 rebounds
A 6-3 big man, Schultz led the Huskies in both scoring and rebounding last season. He’ll have even more shots coming his way with the second and third-leading scorers from last year graduating.
