But the power forward — Michigan’s 27th-ranked 2019 — is more-so known for his prowess on the gridiron than for basketball.
Brown has seen some football interest come in from Michigan State, Toledo, Central Michigan and Northwestern so far.
But he says he wouldn’t mind seeing some more hoops interest start to come his way, and his goal is to have college options on both sports.
“At the next level I think I’ll probably be a Division I football player. I play basketball right now because it’s fun and to stay in shape,” he said. “But at the same time, I really don’t know where I’ll end up. And I want to be able to say I got a Division I offer in both sports, and to have the option to choose.”
On the hardwood, Brown is a gritty post, who takes pride in defense and rebounding.
“My game is really kind of like, anywhere down low I feel like no one can score on me one-on-one. And I just like rebounding and banging down low – just an all-around big-man game,” said Brown.
“I want to be able to dribble better and get into better shape. I want to get my body into more of college shape.”
Brown has called Walled Lake Northern home for the past year-and-a-half. But he played his last game with the Knights two weeks ago.
He says he’ll transfer to Walled Lake Western at the end of the semester.
“My goals moving forward with Walled Lake Western are to be a better student-athlete, and for me to learn the game more – just to be a whole better player,” said Brown.
“I want to get my grades up, that’s really a big thing. And I want to be a better student-athlete – sports isn’t going to go forever and I just want to have a backup plan. I want to be able to have a fresh, new start, and get my grades up and just have fun.”
He’s hoping to get some more hoops attention too, but says high-level football is the ultimate goal.
“I’ve talked to U of D for basketball, and I don’t get to a whole of camps. I play AAU and some coaches see me,” said Brown. “But I really just focus on football and that’s my goal is to be a Division I, like Big Ten, football player.”
