But even they say Roberts might be too good for them.
“I’d say Wayne State has been recruiting me, and that’s about it so far. They’ve come to my practice before, and I talked to one of their coaches,” said Roberts.
“He told me to keep working, and said I have too much talent to come to Wayne State, but they’ll still recruit me the next couple years.”
Michigan’s 63rd-ranked 2018, the 6-foot-3 junior says he does feel a bit under-recruited up to this point of his career.
“I feel like I’m definitely under the radar, because the people I played against in AAU, I think I did better than them,” said Roberts. “And hopefully things change starting with my 17U season. And hopefully I pick up some offers.”
A slashing guard, Roberts says he prefers to score his buckets at the rim, but will get his jumper going if necessary.
“I like to attack first before shooting; I like to get to the hoop first before shooting, and then I like to shoot from outside and mid-range, and get my team involved,” said Roberts.
“I think I need to be more consistent with my jump-shot, that’s one of the biggest things I need to improve. And then ball-handling too.”
Now approaching the midway point of his junior season with Cowboys, Roberts laid out for PHMI what his role is with the team this season.
“My role is to be a leader. I’ve been here all three years so my coach expects more from me, and I have to be a main part of the team,” he said.
“I’ve been playing pretty well, but I can get better. One of my goals is to have at least an offer from a Division I or Division II school by the end of the year.”
