CP3 Memorial Day Classic: 2023 Gavin Walsh talks spring & game
One of the top local performers this past weekend at the CP3 Memorial Day Classic was 2023 forward Gavin Walsh Gavin Walsh 6'7" | PF Loyola Blakefield | 2022 State MD of Team Melo. Walsh, who is currently 6’7, has been catching a lot of people’s attention this spring because of the offensive versatility he brings to his team. He can score the ball at all three levels and that was on full display this weekend in Winston-Salem.
“I think my offensive versatility is the best part of my game. I am 6’7 forward that can take you to the rim, attack on closeouts, dribble the ball, finish above the rim and knock down shots from three.”
Walsh started his spring off with Team Durant but just recently joined Team Melo and has been enjoying his time with them.
“I recently just joined Team Melo and I have been having a blast so far. We have a really good coaching staff and they have been fitting me in their system really well. I am excited for the summer.”
Walsh continued to speak about his role with Team Melo.
“I have a lot of different roles offensively with Melo. We use the offense to open up driving lanes to get paint touches and that allows me to get the ball off screens or take myself to the basket and if I don’t have a shot I can just kick it out to someone that I know will knock it down.”
With June starting and the dead period finally being lifted, schools will be able to get on the road to see Walsh in person and he hopes to set up some visits. Some schools that have begun to show interest in Walsh are Boston, UMass, Loyola (MD), Army and VMI.
Expect one of those schools to pull the trigger and offer Walsh which is his main goal for the summer.
“I am hoping to officially get my first offer. I don’t have any right now but I am getting a lot of interest and hopefully that first one will come this summer.”
